Congratulations to the Anchorage Fur Rondy for Celebrating 90 years in 2025. Here is a little memory from 1978. On February 18th, 1978 Senator Ted Stevens and Congressman Don Young competed in a sprint sled dog race against each other on 4th Avenue during Fur Rondy.

Today, we celebrate the 77th birthday of the U.S. Air Force! On this date in 1949, Eielson Air Force Base was formally dedicated.
On August 23, 1969, the Aviator Ben Eielson monument was dedicated at Eielson AFB near Fairbanks.

One of the historic 16-mm film reels that was digitized recently, thanks to a grant by the National Film Preservation Foundation (NFPF) had footage from the aftermath of the 1964 Earthquake. Here is the after earthquake section of the film.

Our archivist came upon a letter and the senator's response which is shared here. In the letter from Mr. Putziger, the Senator was asked what 5 books had the most influence as a political leader.
Following the 2001 Winter Special Olympics World Games in Alaska, Senator Stevens and Arnold Schwarzenegger exchanged notes. We always knew that Senator Stevens had some psychic abilities!
Delynn Henry, long-time scheduler for Senator Ted Stevens visited the archives this week and lent a hand identifying photos and archiving boxes. She was welcomed by other former Senator staff and current Foundation staff.

Thanks to a grant by the National Film Preservation Foundation (NFPF), we are digitizing our older films. One film reels included some of Senator Stevens’ first televised reports to Alaskans.

We were saddened like many Alaskans to hear of the passing of Former Senate President Lyda Green. Senator Stevens and Senator Green were friends as well as political allies. The Ted Stevens Foundation offers its condolences to the family and friends of Senator Lyda Green.
