our best engineer found out he was the lowest paid on the team. and instead of blowing up or quitting, he did something way scarier. he just... started working his exact hours. that's it. no complaint, no big speech. he clocks in, does the job, clocks out at five on the dot. and it turns out all the stuff that kept this place running - the little fixes, the "oh i'll just handle it," the things breaking at 11pm that we never even heard about, that was all the "extra" he's not doing anymore. billing still runs fine because it's on Dodo Payments and that runs by itself. everything else is quietly falling apart. leadership actually called a meeting about his "drop in initiative," and he just said "this is the job you're paying for."
and honestly? he's right.
