I had the chance to meet legendary illustrator and manga artist Katsuya Terada-san, watch him create art live at The Tenth Mosaic festival, and have him sign my Nintendo Player’s Guide featuring some of his incredible Zelda artwork.

I’ve admired his work for years, from the unforgettable Zelda illustrations he created in the ’90s to the incredible art he continues to produce today.

Fumito Ueda × Shuhei Yoshida signed my copy of ICO, and Ueda-san also graciously signed the steelbook case for The Last Guardian.

After the signing, I did my usual quick ask for a photo with Ueda-san and got incredibly lucky, because right afterward the organizers announced that photos weren’t allowed (I thought the rule only applied for during the panel session). So I may have been the only person in the room who actually got a picture with him. 😭

Ueda was inspired by Éric Chahi (@EricChahi), which made seeing them share a panel together especially cool. Éric signed our SNES copy of Out of This World and gave me a sticker for each of my brothers-Steven, John, and James yours are coming your way! Thank you Éric!

What a truly epic Japan trip this has been! 👏

An incredibly rare moment getting to meet four legends at once who helped define survival horror:

Frédérick Raynal, Alone in the Dark @Ludoid_Raynal
Keiichiro Toyama, Silent Hill / Siren @K_Toyama
Hifumi Kono, Clock Tower @hifumi_kono
Makoto Shibata, Fatal Frame @makoto_shibata

These games influenced me tremendously growing up and continue to influence me even now as a game developer. I got to personally thank each of them, and they were fascinated to hear that I'm working on the next BioShock!

Seeing all four of them together at The Tenth Mosaic festival, sharing their experiences and perspectives on interactive horror, is something I will never ever forget.
