Today, we know the CryptoPunks. But… what existed before the CryptoPunks? What did the earliest experiments look like? And most importantly: what exactly are the V0 Punks?
To understand this theory, we first need to understand how a project like CryptoPunks is created.
When you develop generative art, you don't usually go straight from an idea to the final artwork. You experiment. You test different ideas. You generate variations. You modify certain elements. You look at the results. Then you start again. And again. And again.
That's especially true when you're working with an algorithm capable of generating thousands of different combinations.
Before reaching the 10,000 CryptoPunks we know today, it's reasonable to ask how many versions, tests and prototypes may have been generated along the way.
And that's exactly what Matt Hall And John explains in this passage, when he shows how the CryptoPunks were generated using their algorithm.

This passage is important because it helps us understand one essential thing:
The final result doesn't simply appear out of nowhere. It's the result of an experimentation process.
So here's my theory:
What if the V0 Punks were actually born from those earliest experiments?
Prototypes. Early generations. Versions created before Matt and John arrived at the final form of CryptoPunks.
And that's precisely why the term “V0” interests me so much. 👀
Now let's move forward.
Because this is where Nakamigos enters the story.
October 28, 2022.
Before Nakamigos ever appeared publicly on Twitter, the domain nakamigos.eth was registered for 50 years.
Three days later, on October 31, 2022, an anonymous team appeared publicly on Twitter with a very interesting message:
“14 years ago today, Satoshi Nakamoto published the Bitcoin white paper. Today Nakamigos begin.”
And Nakamigos began.
The name itself is already an obvious reference to Satoshi Nakamoto.
The project launched on the anniversary of the Bitcoin Whitepaper.
And behind the project: an anonymous team, a pixel-art collection, an identity deeply connected to cryptography and Bitcoin.
At the time, nobody was really asking whether Nakamigos could have anything to do with CryptoPunks.
For most people, it was simply another pixel-art collection.
But the more I look at Nakamigos…
the more I wonder whether we're actually looking at something much deeper.
There's another detail that has always intrigued me.
Nakamigos created 24 Honory to pay tribute to different iconic figures in the NFT space.
Farokh. Snowfro. gmoney. Richerd. And others.
But two particularly important names are missing:
Matt Hall and John Watkinson.
And that raises a simple question:
Why?
If Nakamigos wanted to honor pioneers of the NFT space… why aren't the two creators of CryptoPunks among them?
An oversight? A deliberate decision? Or perhaps their role in this story is different from everyone else's?
And what if…
Matt and John were actually involved in this story?
I'm not saying they are.
I'm simply asking the question.
Because when it comes to HiFo Labs, I find it difficult to believe that every choice is completely random.
There's also something much harder to explain:
artistic signature.
Every artist develops a way of creating that eventually becomes recognizable.
You can copy the pixels. The colors. The proportions. The traits.
But reproducing the soul of a collection is much harder.
Many projects have tried to reproduce the CryptoPunks' visual language.
The pixel art. The characters. The colors. The traits.
But personally, when I look at Nakamigos, sometimes I feel like I'm seeing something much closer to the DNA of the Punks.
Is it simply inspiration?
Maybe.
And now we arrive at something that, personally, makes me think even more.

Two days before the CryptoPunks event, Matt Hall, John Watkinson and Beeple are together for an interview.
And at one point, John says something that immediately caught my attention:
“We don't talk enough about our project, Nakamigos.”

Matt Hall and John Watkinson have been in this ecosystem for more than ten years.
They are historical figures in the NFT and crypto space.
They created CryptoPunks.
And yet, I've never seen them constantly talking about shitcoins, memecoins or random NFT projects just to give them attention.
They seem extremely selective about what they choose to talk about.
They don't seem like the kind of people who speak simply to attack a project or destroy someone's reputation.
So why?
Why Nakamigos?
Why did John Watkinson himself feel the need to publicly say:
“We don't talk enough about our project, Nakamigos.”
And most importantly…
why say it just two days before the CryptoPunks event?

And then something catches my attention:
Matt Hall signs the documents.
Why?
Why voluntarily sign something presenting Nakamigos as the V0 Punks?
Why participate in this narrative?
Why did John talk about Nakamigos just two days earlier?
Why did Beeple already seem to be putting certain elements in front of us?
And why does everything seem to converge around the same moment?
Let me be clear about something:
I'm not saying these elements prove that Nakamigos are the V0 Punks.
They don't.
I'm not claiming to have the answer.
I'm simply looking at the events in chronological order.

Maybe the answer is simply:

Maybe this is all just an incredible performance.
But maybe…
we're looking at something much bigger than a simple troll.
For now, I'm not going to decide.
I'm just following the clues.
Because one thing is certain:
there are way too many pieces on the table.
Maybe we're right.
Maybe we're completely wrong.
Only time will tell.
But I genuinely hope that, one day,
time proves the Migos right. 👀
Because if the V0 story is real…
we may not simply be looking at another NFT collection.
