In rural #Thailand, tractors are more than just farming buddies – they're #racing machines. New work diving into the subculture of thrill-seeking farmers and mechanics who modify their vehicles to race each other in muddy rice fields. https://t.co/TSs78X9cd5
The World Bank recently (July 3 ) released the Thailand Economic Monitor report, which revised down its forecast for Thai economic growth in 2025 to 1.8% and next year to 1.7% due to several factors, but the most notable is the impact of the trade war .
The report said trade policy uncertainty was a key factor not included in the February forecast, which had projected GDP growth of 2.9%. But the uncertainty has now had a significant impact, causing global uncertainty, directly affecting exports and slowing domestic investment.
And here we are again...
20 years after protesters rallied against PM Thaksin Shinawatra that ended in a military coup; 11 years after many of the same people rallied against Thaksin's sister Yinglick that also ended in another military coup; today thousands of Thais rallied against Thaksin's daughter Paetongtarn Shinawatra for her allged mishandling of the territorial dispute with Cambodia.
For longtime political observers, those lines are familiar yet unsettling. For a new generation of politically minded Thais, they have only heard of Thaksin from their parents and yet still see his blatant influence and ambition play out in the public domain, but failing to fix (if not exacerbate) a country suffering from economic and societal malaises caused by decades of political dysfunction.
What is that dysfunction? Go back to the top and read again.

[Breaking] The test results of 28 steel samples from the collapsed State Audit Office building in Bangkok's Chatuchak district showed that two did not meet standards, said Nonthichai Likitaporn, director of the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI)’s Standards Division 1.
Earlier reports identified Xin Ke Yuan Steel as the supplier. The company was charged in January with producing substandard steel.
Nonthichai said more samples would be collected from the site for further investigation.

🎥 WATCH: It’s a race against time for the trapped workers at the collapsed Chatuchak construction site, as focus turns onto a Chinese state-owned company linked to this project. Here’s our @ChannelNewsAsia live report with the latest.
@AsianStockTradr Hey there, I’m not able to confirm reopen times. But authorities have said that aftershock in Mandalay had minimal impact to Thailand this morning & evacs could have been mass panic.
Buildings evacuated at 11am today, per Thai PBS:
1. Gov. Complex A & B
2. Ratchada Criminal Court
3. Royal Thai Army HQ
4. Chula Hospital building
5. Revenue Department (Soi Ari)
6. Social Security Office (Din Daeng)
7. Stock Exchange of Thailand
8. Gov Housing Bank (Rama 9)
@HashModha Authorities say aftershock in Mandalay had minimal impact to Thailand this morning & evacs could have been mass panic. PM stated that decision to evacuate are at each org’s discretion but urged action be clearly communicated and based on verified info from official sources.
@HashModha Hey there, there were reports of private offices and buildings evacuated too. This particular list shared by local media only included gov buildings.
In an urgent broadcast, both the @DDPMNews and Bangkok Governor @chadchart_trip say the evacuation of buildings this AM was likely a mass panic. A 3.7 aftershock in Mandalay, Myanmar, had minimal impact on Thailand according to measurements. Officials urge people to stay calm.
Bangkok Quake Aftermath Update
- 72 hours passed since at least 78 construction workers are feared trapped in collapsed Chatuchak site, rescue continues
- evacuations of dozens of buildings in BK likely “caused by mass panic” as aftershock in Myanmar had “no effect” here
@JakeNeedham PM stated that evac decisions are at each organization's discretion but urged that any action be clearly communicated and based on verified information from official sources.
@JakeNeedham There have been reports of people feeling tremors in parts of Bangkok. However, as of 12:30 PM, authorities say that there has been no earthquake in Thailand.
In response to reports of people evacuating buildings at this time, I have checked with all relevant authorities and have confirmed the following:
1. According to the Thai Meteorological Department, there has been no earthquake in Thailand. The aftershocks from Myanmar have no impact on Thailand.
2. The cracks that have led the building owner to order an evacuation are now being reported as pre-existing cracks. Therefore, we would like to reaffirm the original directive from Bangkok Governor: building owners must urgently inspect the building to clearly determine whether the cracks are old, existing, or new. This will support proper decision-making.
3. Building owners are requested to thoroughly inspect the building to ensure safety before reopening for use. If uncertain, please consult the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning or the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) for official inspection.
4. The decision to evacuate each building is at the discretion of each organization; however, we urge that any such decision be clearly communicated and based on verified information from official government sources.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Bangkok Metropolitan Administration issues a guideline for residents to check their home and condo to see whether their resident is still safe for continued habitation, following the tremors from the major quake in Myanmar. Green colour signifies it's OK. Yellow means it requires engineering expert examination. Red means it's too dangerous to re-enter the premises.
Please be notified accordingly. #Thailand #Bangkok #earthquake #แผ่นดินไหว
Despite the numerous evacuations of buildings reported across Bangkok this morning, @EarthquakeTMD has NOT recorded any tremors or aftershocks in Thailand.
