Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has unveiled a new 30-member government, with only four women included in the cabinet lineup.
The new government is led by Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Mohamed Lo, a senior economist appointed after Faye dismissed former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko and dissolved the previous cabinet.
The announcement comes at a tense political moment in Senegal, as Sonko, once Faye’s close ally and mentor, has said his Pastef party will not participate in the new government following disagreements with the president.
Despite that position, reports say some Pastef members and allies appear in the new cabinet, while several senior figures from the previous government have been left out.
The limited number of women in the 30-member team has also drawn attention, raising fresh questions about gender representation in top government offices as Senegal faces political uncertainty and economic pressure.

Africa is tired of carrying the weight of chains that were never ours to begin with. Colonial masters drew lines on our land, stole our wealth, and tried to shrink our minds, but they failed to kill our spirit.#yuothsforpolitics 💙 @AKamewe@BorisSkillcat@JoshuaOsih
