@CRSRipley Please share the recipe!! I have the same dietary restrictions, and not being able to eat Mac and Cheese is the absolute saddest thing in my life.
@missessp I teach “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian” by Sherman Alexie. During Back to School night, I provide parents with an intro. I allow parents to ask questions/explain why I chose the book and I also send home letters to parents that they sign.
Attention middle school English teachers: What are some culturally responsive books that you have taught that were particularly successful in terms of student engagement?
@AbbyRombalski@ncte My school demographics are about 90% Hispanic and have a high percentage of African-American students as well, so any book that discusses the struggles of POC. Any book that features a protagonist who my students can relate to is 👌🏾
@lipatel@AbbyRombalski@ncte True. I gave a little more context- I’m looking for novels where the protagonist is a young minority. My goal is to get the students discussing social issues surrounding people of color.
@magicalmsmurphy @ncte “The Rose That Grew From Concrete” would be a great poem to start the year off with to get the students thinking about having a growth mindset and overcoming the obstacles that will come this school year.
Please help me provide my students with a culturally responsive novel that will promote discussion and critical thinking surrounding current social issues. Donations to my classroom are currently being matched! #thehateugive https://t.co/PVS7dLmOcI
