@SarahisCensored Are you going to be getting a copy of court transcripts? I’ve noticed everything is still sealed but there was a court communication to press re:exhibits, etc
@DalLoverMike@GiveSendGo He did not have a public defender. He filed indigent status but was NEVER appointed one. Howard & team were retained privately
Austin Metcalf's dad, Jeff, just unloaded on Karmelo Anthony.
"We were robbed, don't look down, of all of these things."
"I said from day one, this was never about race, please don't politicize it. But what did you choose to do, both. It's about right and wrong. We're all humans. We all bleed the same color.
"You're free to make choices all you want, but you're not free from those consequences. You will face those consequences starting today."
"People think that grief is sadness but its not. IT"S RAGE!!! (slamming his hands on the table.) Pure unfiltered rage,' he shouts.
"You failed your parents, your failed yourself and you failed society, You don't belong in this community," he says to Karmelo.
"You're going to prison, You can't even look me in the eyes right now but you can stab my fu**ing son in the heart."
BREAKING: Karmelo Anthony has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for the stabbing death of Austin Metcalf in 2025 after the same jury found him guilty of murder earlier today.
They rejected the sudden passion claim.
Verdict - Guilty.
I am still inside the courthouse. We are currently waiting on the jury to finish deliberating on sentencing.
After sentencing will be the victim impact statements. I will update everyone when I leave for the day. I just wanted everyone to know that we are safe.
The jury is now deciding punishment for Karmelo Anthony.
One key question is whether he acted under what’s known as “sudden passion.”
If jurors say no, he can be sentenced up to life in prison.
If they say yes, the maximum sentence drops to a maximum of 20 years.
@defense_diaries@TheCareerNomad_ They didn’t raise that, and only called his mother. I honestly was shocked. I expected many witness to try & get min sentence.
@ekkhouser614@jdmiles11 If they have to consider he is a 1st time offender, etc.. then it goes lower. Based on some of the reporting on how jurors felt about life, I think they land in the middle. He serves time, parole, restitution. I think if they give him life, the appeal will overturn it.
@Bederowlaw Agree. What is shocking is they only called his mom as a witness in the penalty phase! I expected teachers, coaches, etc .. speak to this action being an outlier not a habit. Do you think his atty didn’t have any planned bc they were confident a NG verdict?
@cathyrusson I feel like the jury will be more lenient on the sentencing. I think it’s going to be 15-20, serves 50%. No priors, good student, I think he is remorseful. Either way His life is over, his future is gone.
Karmelo Anthony now faces 5-99 years. The same jury will determine the sentence. They are moving into the penalty phase now and witnesses will be called.
@Sassafrass_84 It is very common in Texas to include a lesser charge for the jury to consider regardless of how confident they are in their case. It reduces the chance of a mistrial. And most of the time defense want it also in cases I have seen.
@cathyrusson Oh man. I wish the judge would’ve at least allowed the verdict to be read on camera… but I also hope they have planned to have the jurors escorted home afterwards if the verdict is guilty.
