The Night Shift Open may be over, but your regularly scheduled Shift is still on schedule!
EU sees the full appearance of the top 3 of the Night Shift Open. Whereas NA looks to see if Melee Creeps can defend the throne after an Urn'ed victory last week.
How will it all pan out? Gotta clock in to find out!
(P.S. Melee Creeps has a mystery sub for Eido...)
@Caaymus There's no future in prediction markets for sponsorships. Not with new laws coming that ban both use and advertisement.
Minnesota's new law alone creates enormous obstacles because good luck stopping your sponsorship from inadvertently being broadcast in the state.
In a little over 8 hours, we went from 64 teams down to our final 4 joining us in Group Stage play!
Our first matches tomorrow in the Night Shift Open:
Melee Creeps vs Bird With Clock
Lowkey W vs Leviathan
Floormen vs Get Candy
FPS Lounge vs Abrahams
Once again a huge thank you to the Deadlock community being one of the best ever to work with. All players regardless of experience level were a joy to work with today!
Tomorrow we're hitting the big 40 here on the Night Shift.
Fresh off the heels of DSI this weekend and multiple patches, what will the teams be ready to show us?
If you want to see how the game has changed on the top end, you gotta clock in tomorrow at 4 PM EDT to find out!
@punished_kyle70 You don't want every mechanic in the game to be a burger box fest though.
Adding Urn to the same pile as things like Midboss is definitely over the top in how it was playing out in the previous iteration.
Massively positive Urn changes.
This prevents things from being 6v6 slop every 5 minutes, and hopefully for the actual fights makes things a bit less burgerboxing with the longer timers.
@BlackoutMauro Most importantly, we're back to a state that if you want to 6 man urn you give up real presence elsewhere on the map.
It's double the journey to the other side of the map, and 3x the journey back essentially.
@OuroBoros_Games Apollo got nerfed really hard though.
Riposte lost an unbelievable amount of utility / escape power.
His pick rate / priotity also plummeted in pro play as a result.
The biggest problem with the new Urn in Deadlock isn't even the comeback balance (fixable).
It's that it forces 6v6 team fights every 5 minutes. Old Urn had a lot more variety in that fights were often between 5v5 and 4v4. Rarely did you pull your entire team to fight Urn.
Deadlock is a deeper, richer game when you have more complex choices about how to allocate your players around the map.
@ilovethickwomn One thought I had similar to that would be doing the old urn placement (Left to Right, Right to Left) up until the 30 minute urn.
Urn from 30 minutes on would be in the middle as a disguised "End the game already wtf" mechanic.
@puddles_tf@DLNightShift On reflection, I think this Urn if it's micro issues were fixed could work - but only on a 10 minute timer.
Other objectives would need to fill the void.
The concept of a 6v6 fight via objectives isn't bad in theory - it's just bad when it's every 5 minutes on the game clock.
@RayleighGGs@DLNightShift Still leads to 6v6 yes. I was speaking more from the sense of making the fight feel more compelling and less of a burger box.
The more I think it over, the more I think the problem is just the frequency. This Urn *could* work with tweaks, but a 10 minute timer and not 5.
Given that the Urn fight itself can take as long as two minutes to resolve, it inevitably locks people into a cycle where the only thing that matters is the Urn.
Also it makes midboss a less compelling decision because whoever wins the team fight part of the urn just goes mid.
@RayleighGGs@DLNightShift There's fixes that can be done on it's claim mechanics - like favoring King of the Hill over Melee, or making the turn in timer longer - I think that aspect is something that can be fixed.
My problem is what the current Urn + frequency does for the overall game macro + tempo.
