@franklinleonard Take Rick Famuyiwa, who seems to be successful and maybe is very happy directing TV. And maybe it's in some part by choice, but Dope came out in 2015, was received well by audience and critics, and hasn't directed a theatrical released movie since.

Had it switched endings I'm not so sure it wouldn't hit different for me. Every person has in their pocket a way to see if there's any kind of stinger in 30 seconds.
