After a thrilling 4th quarter, NM Highlands gave Head Coach Kurt Taufa’asau his 1st win as a Cowboy and his first win in the RMAC, with their 33-30 victory over Chadron last Saturday.

The Cowboys had an 18-16 lead going into the 4th. The lead quickly turned into a deficit when Chadron scored a TD on a 74 yard drive at the 9:04 mark.

Highlands responded with a 75 yard drive of its own that ended with Joey Cave connecting with Teneil Nichols for a 61 yard TD pass to retake the lead, 26-23 with 6:54 on the clock.

Chadron refused to give up and put together a 71 yard drive that ended with a TD to go back up 30-26 with 4:08 left in the game.

Highlands’ grit, however, was on display as Cave connected with Nichols once again on a 28 yard TD pass with 1:08 remaining, giving the Cowboys the 33-30 lead and eventual win.

Cave was simply unstoppable, throwing for 196 yards and 3 TDs as well as running for another 66 yards and a rushing TD!

On defense, Ioane Foliake-Fete stopped everything, raking up an impressive 7 solo tackles, including a tackle for loss.

Leading NM Highlands to the win were:
🏈 Joey Cave, 12 Cmps on 17 Atts for 196 yards & 3 TDs in addition to 66 yards rushing on 12 carries and a rushing TD;
🏈 Tevita Valeti, 26 carries for 116 yards & 1 TD;
🏈 Teneil Nichols, 5 Recs for 124 yards & 2 TDs;
🏈 Ioane Foliake-Fete, 7 Solo Tackles, including 1 TFL; &
🏈 Fabiano Valdez, 6 Solo Tackles.

NM highlands looks to build off the win next weekend when they take on Mesa in Grand Junction.
