The Dalai Lama remains exiled, and his image is banned in Tibet, while religious practices are heavily monitored and restricted.

The Chinese Communist Party’s pervasive presence is evident, with propaganda throughout the region, while dissent is quashed, and Tibetans face increasing pressure to conform to a homogenized Chinese identity. Critics argue that Tibetans are denied the right to self-determination and are subject to state-controlled narratives that overshadow the region’s complex history.

Despite economic growth in urban centers, rural Tibet faces continued hardship, with many Tibetans still struggling under government control. Forced relocation, surveillance, and control of cultural practices persist, with no independent observers allowed. The Chinese government defends its actions as promoting stability and unity but fails to address ongoing human rights concerns. Tibet remains one of China’s most sensitive and controversial regions.

Remembering and honoring the victims of the Ghulja Massacre—those brave souls who stood against China's brutal crackdown.
On February 5, 1997, peaceful Uyghur demonstrators in Ghulja (Yining) were met with indiscriminate violence by Chinese authorities. Eyewitnesses recall that the People’s Armed Police and riot police opened fire into the crowd of approximately 10,000 Uyghurs, resulting in numerous deaths and injuries. Official death tolls were never released, but sources report that at least 100 people were killed immediately, with hundreds more wounded and arrested.
Uyghur democracy leader Rebiya Kadeer has repeatedly called for justice, stating, “mothers, wives, and children of those who disappeared in the Ghulja Massacre still do not know if their loved ones are dead or alive.”

We must take action and call out China for its brutalities and atrocities against Uyghurs. The international community must demand accountability and justice for the victims of the Ghulja Massacre.
