Do a little more research.
Act 10:35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
Rom 2:14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:
Rom 2:15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)
Rom 2:16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.
Everything I wrote is what the text actually says.
Saying, “that is not true” does not equal something not being true.
Paul very clearly associates “being baptised into His death” with being “dead to sin” with “no longer living in sin” with not “obeying sin.”
Paul very clearly associates “walking in newness of life” with “living with Him” and “being alive unto God” and ”obeying righteousness.”
The problem with your initial post is that it alludes to a false dichotomy of “baptism in the Holy Spirit” versus “water baptism.”
Paul of course is speaking of being “raised up into the Spirit of life” (ie. the one baptism) but the burial he is speaking of is true repentance wherein the old man (rebellious “I am god self”) is put to death producing “obedience from the heart” which is essential for the quickening to occur.
God will not raise up a rebel.
To place this occurrence in “water baptism” itself negates the rooting out of the rebellion in the heart through repentance.
A sincere believer does not repent during the ordinance, they partake in the ordinance already repentant.
@___TheGOOdWitch@kakigaijin Just read the Bible not the tradition of men.
Jesus paid for us not a sin debt off. A debt forgiven is not a debt paid.
in Christianity we partake in Christ’s death and henceforth partake in His life.
@ShaneSchaetzel The USA was never a Christian nation. The adhered to some Christian principles but a majority of the people have never picked up their cross, denied themselves and actually followed Jesus.
The problem is that "what Jesus did on the cross" is most often completely misrepresented and redefined to be a legal transaction which reconciles God to man.
The truth is that man is reconciled to God through the cross via true repentance and faith. We are brought up to God's standard via entering into the New Covennant, being truly cleansed and purified wherein we henceforth walk in righteousness and love. Thus the Cross does not provide a sin license.
Satan wants people to believe that the Cross is transactional and thus serves, in effect, as "ye can sin and not surely die" so long as you have the transaction applied to you. Thus people can remain dead in sins, remain wicked and have a false assurance that they have been reconciled to God.
Don't be deceived, be a DOER of the Word just like Jesus taught, abide IN Him and walk as He walked. There is peace and purpose in the Spirit of life IN Jesus Christ.
The Catholic Church looks nothing like what we read about in the book of Acts.
Christian elders/shepherds etc. did not dress in special robes, swing incense tools, have a Vatican or fancy buildings.
Nor did they use a special round wafer for the Lord’s Supper, nor did they teach purgatory, indulgences.
They didn’t teach people were “born sinners” and that sin was somehow passed down genetically like Augustine in the male seed. On and on and on.
The Catholic Church (and Protestantism) is an utter perversion of what Jesus taught and the Church He established.
Jesus gave Himself for us that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
A redemption from wickedness itself.
Look at the history of the institution of the Catholic Church. Redeemed from all evil or a practitioner of wickedness throughout much of history?
Jesus not the Apostles nor the early church burned anyone at the stake, drowned anyone, beat anyone etc. They loved not the world, neither the things in the world and knew the world was passing away. They loved God with all their heart, mind and soul and their neighbours as themselves. They even loved their enemies, prayed for them and when persecuted for their faith, turned the other cheek.
@Grok Add the writings of Paul, James, John, Peter and Jude, as well as the book of Hebrews for consideration. Only use the plain text using reason and logic, avoid completely tradition, opinion, theologies, popular or unpopular views, strictly the text only interpeted through common sense reason and logic. Please give a detailed answer.
Look at this scripture and consider it:
1Jn 4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
1Jn 4:17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
1. God is love
2. Our love is made perfect when we dwell in that love, dwell in God, and God dwells in us.
3. If this is real then we may have boldness in the day of judgement: because "as He is" (ie. "love"), so are we in this world.
Clearly this is speaking of a manifest living experience.
There is no possible way that someone could be "loving the world" and "loving the things of the world" and at the same time be "in Christ" (ie. dwelling in love, dwelling in God, God dwelling in them).
The same author noted:
1Jn 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
1Jn 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
1Jn 2:17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
The love of the Father (ie. 1Jn 4:16) is not in those whom love the world and the things of the world.
Also note that 1Jn 2:17 the "doeth the will of the Father" matches Jesus' very words:
Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
The modern Gospel message, in general, is a total farce because it completely eliminates the above by providing a false assurance to people because they "mentally assent" to something (ie. Jesus died for my sins) but there is no true transformation. Basically salvation becomes a get out of jail free card instead of the call for us to "lose our lives" that we may "find our lives."
Joh 12:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
Joh 12:25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
Joh 12:26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.
The reason you are bothered is that there is something deep down inside you (your conscience) warning you that platitudes towards Jesus' is not actually enough. Even though many people will claim it is by saying "not of works" etc. to give comfort otherwise.
True faith works because it is an active reality of a heart truly yielded to God and trusting in Him. Without real surrender, without a real death of the old man (Rom 6:6) there can be no real life, no real life in the Spirit of life IN Jesus Christ (Rom 8:2).
Please reflect on this carefully.
Be well.
Not saved from this present evil world?
Gal 1:4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:
Not redeemed from all iniquity, purified and made zealous for righteousness?
Tit 2:14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
Not “doing” the will of the Father?
Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
