In the new episode of the podcast we look back at one of the true giants of the game - Lew Hoad. Unpacking the Hoad saga are former Australian great John Alexander and historian @Ringham7. @TennisSkip1515 splits the host duties with @saqiba

Half of the ATP only plays four 3of5 matches/yr; losing in the first round of the majors. Not every match goes to 4 let alone 5 sets. Blaming 3of5 for an injury trend and not equipment and/or the technique it encourages runs counter to data
Love five-setters. But something has to give. Way too many players are getting hurt. Matches are ending at 3:33a.m. Behind closed doors many- including players -are trying to find solutions. Agree. Disagree. But saying “nothing needs changing” doesn’t align with reality…
@jon_wertheim@LaverCup “Said no fan today” is at best a mild exaggeration, from the comments it appears it’s not at all true. I don’t deny the drama we saw, but a third set is better, by far.
@usta and @ebutorac you should be ashamed (sorry, but true) over the insult your @usopen mixed doubles draw is to the competition, its history, and ranked mixed doubles players
We discuss the best ATP players who fell short at the #USOpen in the latest episode with tennis historian Steve Flink and @TennisSkip1515

I realize bombast gets eyeballs, but "terrible look" is a bit over the top. A mistake was made. Not the first time in pro sports, and not the 1000th, and not a game changer at that.
@atrupar Newsom should call their bluff and say he will embargo all federal taxes from CA residents to Uncle Sam until they release emergency funds. Call back the entire House and Senate delegation. File papers for secession.
We don't know atm how the Michelson/Tsitsipas match will end, but it's hard to understand how someone who "struggles to create any form of offense" *and* for whom "defense is not a strength" is currently ranked 12 in the world. (quotes are paraphrasing)
@Gill_Gross Definitely. Stef struggling to create any form of offense and we already know that defense definitely isn’t the strength of the Greek. Impressive from Michelsen to still take that second set despite not playing his best!

If Swiatek was displeased with Gauff's celebration at winning their match it would have been far better to say as much at the net – "Yo, congrats and all, but that was kinda bush" – rather than cold fish handshake her. Not saying that's my take on Coco, but on Iga #hothouseflower
Happy to join once again podmaster @saqiba and Hall of Fame tennis journalist-historian Steve Flink - @sflinko - as we complete the throwback series of decades in men's tennis.
In this latest one, our focus centers on the 2010s. Enjoy ⤵️

@mattracquet I can't say *every* match deserves a mutual hug @ the net (almost ATP tradition now tbh, not WTA), but I'm still Team Handshake®. The message is a good one. Far better than the one shared by every player's scowling face on the O2 WTF posters a few years ago, Travis Bickle like
@Tennis@NickKyrgios@BrisbaneTennis Look, I don't wish him ill, but fact remains that he last played in 2023 (2023: when he played 1x), his comments are ill-informed, and he himself has a history of tanking. At this point the only reason he gets column inches here is bc he commentates for TC & says outlandish stuff
Our tribute episode to Rafa Nadal is here. Host @mzemek is joined by @burtonad@TennisSkip1515 and @MertovsTDesk to take stock of the legendary moments and matches.

Interview with Simona Halep, who provides the background to her recent angry Instagram post, and speaks about her fears and aspirations for the coming season https://t.co/zZsBaeivY4
@simonrbriggs I feel for her, as she was always an earnest professional (esp w/her brave surgery at the start of her career), but at the least her claim that she's been treated differently doesn't hold up given the major differences in the cases' facts 2/2
