Your perspectives on American culture and American literature are always edifying to me.
Sounds like too much thinking, I’ve been there.
Doesn’t really matter what you think, your subconscious is working against you and you have to break the loop. It’s possible, I’m a ruminator too.
This will be the line that divides the Millennials. One side will define their identity as a new “parent generation” stewarding the transition of culture/power for the benefit today’s actual children. The other side will continue to see the world as children, well into Middle age, trying to recapture the spirit of adolescence in their art and politics.
This division will only partially map to the decision of have children, more closely following the contours of the existing culture war.
Will LLMs be remembered as search engine 2.0, and is that statement both more radical than it appears while also falling short of the most optimistic AGI projections at the same time? Seems like it to me.
Their most functional utility seems to be how they allow modification of cognitive overhead, widen working memory, and allow human time allocation to be redirected to abstraction/creation/planning type activities.
A compression engine of sorts that reduces barriers to entry in various domains while not replacing the need for thoughtfulness, consideration, and execution.

@NatHalberstadt Build it as an online marketplace for bidding and pitching: Polymarket mechanics but for production and creation without the degen energy, Angie’s List structure, but with cybernetic feedback loops and on-chain royalties.
@NatHalberstadt We need an expanded blockchain-undergirded royalty system that rewards creators and producers instead of ad hoc redistribution. Individual + Association keys redirect value flows to contributors and let groups freely set their own membership rolls

The article makes some good points and is maybe purposefully provocative, but it’s a shame the $140k line is sucking up all the attention like a bug zapper. Wish people would understand (and the point made clearer) that wealth ≠ income level.
An addendum to the piece is needed because people are bean counting about something that is actually just a (correct) populist intuition.
-the numbers are f****** rigged, dude-
People may be earning comparatively more, but populist discontent and distrust is actually about recognizing the silent change in the social contract. The system no longer promises the median earner wealth (real assets), it just finds new and creative ways to extracts rents from them. Then it claims the median earner is better off in this scenario because *waves wand* technology.
No wealth = no stake = no power = serfdom
However, when the median citizen accumulates wealth downstream of economic growth, as has been the case in prior cycles, it’s more than profit sharing. It’s building security, and aligning incentives toward productive low time preference behaviors. Yet current monetary policy (cowardice) and parasitic digital technologies (online gambling, shitcoins, influencer campaigns and rug pulls) all point toward a creeping financial nihilism. The logical outcome of a vampiric system that doesn’t want to say that quiet part out loud… technocracy (serfdom) is good actually, and we should do more of that! Trust the experts!
If history is an indication, this will be pinned on some hapless low-life, but this whole thing glows. But there will be no full disclosure if three letters are involved. Don’t become a marionette chasing phantoms in a hall of mirrors. Pray for justice, pray for the Kirk family, and hold fast. Dark magicians are at work.
Exactly. And this isn’t good per se. Wokal is treating this as a form of repentance when it could as easily be judged to be fairweather / mercenary behavior for purely self-interested reasons.
To the centrists it’s only about having the right principles. But to the realist, the principles and the behavior have to be aligned.
@robinhanson Outside of the artifice of social media and information technology, people would not have an inherent disposition tendency to self-impose a gender change.
@Letitgoku@Oilfield_Rando Mocking the premise of the movie about infiltrating right-wing groups and joking about how the left can’t understand the right’s humor nor can they mentally model the right’s true political sentiments. They are outsiders to the new and very online language of the right.
