So why is it called Water Cake? It is said that a good Chwee Kueh will have a concave in the top surface, which "collects" water in it during the steaming process. Go eat some Chwee kueh today and see if they have that dimple! #localsgfoodculture#photofromgoogle
Chwee Kueh (Steamed Water Cake) is one of my favorite local dish that came from Teochew roots. It is made of mainly rice flour and water, pour into aluminum molds then steamed. Served with fragrant preserved radish that is cooked in lard/oil. #sgfood
So SG, this one you can’t claim hor, it’s Malaysia. Although we do have many versions here :) Every rendition is delicious from the Malay to Chinese to Indonesian. What makes a dish special is the many different ways a community cooks it. #eatliaothentalk
Lai! Did you know Nasi Lemak came from the coastal areas of Malaysia by the Malays. Simple ingredients available to fishermen. Coconuts to turn into milk, ikan bilis, rice, chillies & packed into banana leaves for transport. A delicious hearty breakfast! #sgfood#googlephoto
