@Faguilar07@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1 HI! I agree! Sometimes it hard to be the only one to stand up, but for the children its necessary. I like how you talk about self reflection, It is good to think about how to take action.
@Faguilar07@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1 Hi there! I agree. Listening to others point of view and being humble and hear them is where it starts. The more you know the more you understand. Great point!
@_mrslindeman @WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1 Yes! I love that we have the component as teachers! To take time to build a meaningful connection! Positivity plays a large role in life, kids really need it. Great job!
@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1 As a teacher advocate, you support students by speaking up about what students want, what they need and what their rights are. This is particularly important for students with disabilities, who may be less inclined to speak up for themselves.
@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1 Empathy is defined as the ability to understand the thoughts, feelings or emotions of someone else. An empathetic teacher gives each student a framework to build on in which all thoughts, opinions, feelings, and differences are uplifted.
@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1 Working together to build a culture/community of acceptance requires effective communication, being educated, and being empathetic. We must understand everyone’s differences and embrace it. Make sure to have materials available in the classroom that support many cultures.
@Lorena91917976 @AshleymCsub @WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1@joboaler I agree! I am a hands on learner. Working with manipulative s was a great way to learn one to one correspondence. Having a variety of problem solving techniques opens up the world of mathematics to all types of learners. @WrightMath314
@SuzanneArronte@WrightMath314@joboaler@MrsGallardo1 I agree, I remember timed tests. It always made me feel under pressure and I couldn't get my thoughts clear. Problem solving with number sense would have given me strategies to help solve the problems.@WrightMath314
@WrightMath314@joboaler@MrsGallardo1 An alternative to timed tests is to teach fluency through number sense. This allows flexibility for students to learn math. Number sense teaches a variety of strategies to use to problem solve. Make sure to never encourage or emphasize speed.#EDEL5200@WrightMath314
@WrightMath314@joboaler@MrsGallardo1 One reason that contributes to math anxiety is timed tests. Timed tests are reliant on memorization to quickly recall math facts. Another reason is teaching memorization of math facts. There is more than one way to learn mathematics. @WrightMath314@joboaler#EDEL5200
@WrightMath314@joboaler@MrsGallardo1 Memorization of math facts is damaging because it relies too much on distant memory. If you cant remember from memory, you will start to feel anxiety. Memorization is unnecessary because learning math facts through number sense will promote a deeper understanding of concepts.
@Tech_Buddha@Doctor2pi @EddiesClass @teachsci8@Ststansberry A3 One main reason why technology facilitates collaboration among educators is because it is so convenient. I don't have to drive across town, meet up somewhere and discuss documents, just hop online and connect!! #CSUBTEd#csubedte4200
