Yeah you won, but you won on a team that already felt unstoppable.
You can walk into any gym and compete against the other good guys, but when you join the guys that are on a 5+ game win streak, itβs just not as impressive or fulfilling.
I donβt care what the media says or their opinions on him, but I believe as an athlete, you want to feel you earned your championship.
Iβm not saying it was a guarantee because in sports you have to deal with injuries (2019; GSW vs TOR), but Iβd imagine you wonβt feel as
Kevin Durant leaving the Warriors will always be one of NBA history's greatest what-Ifs.
In November of 2019, Steve Kerr offered his perspective on why Durant turned his back on the dynasty:
"The same reason we got Kevin in the first place was the reason we lost him. He was restless. Maybe he wanted to play a little different style. His first year with us, he was a sponge, and he would ask questions constantly... the following year, in 17-18, we lost some of that. And it started to drift. And I felt like Kevin started to drift. And my feeling was he started to get restless, like 'This is all there is? We won the title last year. We're rolling again this year. But whatever it is I'm searching for, I'm still not finding it.' We had a really good thing and then you could just feel it start to slip."
Accomplished if you join a team that has already proven it can win without you. Youβre valuable but they wonβt care if you leave.
Then that starts a domino effect of you searching for a new team/city to call home, because that team you won with didnβt care about you as much.
I still can't fucking believe Kevin Durant joined a 73 win team at his peak. Total bullshit. Will always be bullshit. Ruined so many legacies & made everything worse.
