“Logically, as a studio — and even as a director — you want as many people from the general public to be able to see your film. So, an R-rating might seem like a barrier to entry, and conversations about, ‘Hey, could we have not gotten this down to PG-13?’ of course are going to happen. I saw GODZILLA MINUS ZERO earlier this week. It's probably the best Godzilla movie ever made. The special effects are stunning. The story is soul-crushing. The WW2 symbolism is scathing. I hope Takashi Yamazaki never stops making Godzilla movies.

GODZILLA MINUS ZERO takes everything the first film did well and does it again but bigger and better. A rare sequel that outdoes its predecessor in every way. More emotional, more carnage, more tension, and more brutality. The scale of this thing is massive, with a creative and smart use of visual effects that never betrays or overwhelms the human story being told at its center. Loved the opening, the bi-plane sequence and the final epic kaiju confrontation. Wasn’t expecting to ugly cry by the end. Everything blockbuster filmmaking should be.
