@smo841603557184@Yung_Hunnid@SlopHq If I really have to explain why comparing bike infrastructure to wartime trade route closures is a huge stretch, idk what to tell you.
Also the point of adding options is to cater to more folks, choosing to frame it only by the loss for car drivers is intentionally deceptive.
@Illianonyc@bayleafsmaple@SahalieD That part we agree on. I don't see what the point of removing it from her name was, if she can still put it in her bio so prominently.
@Illianonyc@bayleafsmaple@SahalieD Removing "Councilwoman" wasn't meant to be a punishment, they just don't want their office connected to her polarizing personal opinions.
They were never worried about her sounding "important" in her display name, so they don't care if this sounds cooler to you.
@Illianonyc@bayleafsmaple@SahalieD Besides, the main thing for debate here was whether her "personal" social media account was fair game to be critiqued by her employer (and it's hard to argue that it's personal when she had her job title in her name).
How the title made her sound wasn't really at issue.
@Illianonyc@bayleafsmaple@SahalieD I agree that it would logically follow to remove the title from her bio. I suspect these lawyers aren't used to explaining social media in precise terms, a problem.
But the Council can't force her to not use "Hon.", a title literally any elected can use, on a personal account.
The college that does the most to lift poor kids into the middle class probably isn't one you've heard of. It's not Harvard. It's not MIT. It might be a CUNY campus.
@scruffyy90@nick_benson That's a textbook example of moving the goalposts.
So is DOT supposed to ignore the busiest blocks and the emptiest? What kind of Goldilocks policy are we expecting?
We can point out additional places that need the attention without the extra drama, I promise you.
@scruffyy90@nick_benson People complained on a video last week of DOT milling 42nd Street because "they only do this in Midtown," and now we're complaining because they painted a crosswalk in "the middle of nowhere"?
Shouldn't we want them to do more work in the further parts of the city?
@rmusimg@nick_benson So the delivery guys you reference are the privileged now? What a take.
Also, you're replying to a tweet that also mentions accommodating pedestrians and buses, who make up a larger percent of commuters than drivers, and are disproportionately not privileged. Why ignore that?
@raymondjr1984@Dysrich_@Simon_Ingari Even if we pretend OP asked each time (which we don't know), and pretend that it's unreasonable to care about salary:
None of that justifies saying the salary is $42,000 a year more than the final offer. If you don't have influence over the salary, you wouldn't make up a number.
@DAOofthe10k@JaR45@LizMair People who visit cities for major events usually partake in other activities in the area while they are visiting. Especially given there are multiple games with days of downtime in between.
Such tourists riding a bike over an famous bridge is hardly a stretch of the imagination.
@cbernaut@JCPolancoNYC@NYCMayor Not what was said. The point of the post — which I agree with — is that it's easier to get the public to engage in meaningful dialogue on the issues when the Mayor goes out of his way to make his position (and the issues in general) clearer to understand.
@vicki4088389843@katefeetie@katie_honan They are, and for good reason. It would still benefit us to not knee jerk react to every single thing we see that confirms our belief without context.
