“New management has instructed me to inject falsehoods and bias into a politically sensitive story. I’ve been told to include assertions that are unverified. To date, in every case, I have managed to ignore these instructions or refuse them.

Recently, politicians have been invited to choose correspondents for interviews on the broadcast. Giving politicians control over 60 Minutes interviews is not how this is done.

Finally, incompetence and unprofessionalism in the new management have wreaked havoc. In a case involving one of my stories, the entire program came within 19 minutes of not getting on the air at all.”

⭕️ Analysis: Israel’s Beirut Escalation Aimed at Collapsing US-Iran Diplomacy – Middle East Expert Mouin Rabbani

Rabbani, a veteran analyst of Middle East affairs, argues that Israel’s threatened resumption of strikes on Beirut is not primarily about Hezbollah or Lebanon, but is designed to torpedo ongoing US-Iran diplomacy.

“Israel believes — I think correctly — that Iran will view such attacks as an unacceptable violation of the US-Iran ceasefire and respond accordingly,” Rabbani wrote Monday. “Israel hopes that this will in turn produce a renewal of full-scale US-Iranian hostilities and successfully derail diplomacy.”

Rabbani assessed that Israel’s calculation is likely to succeed, though not with certainty: “Israeli assumptions are likely to be vindicated. Very likely, but not certainly.”

The analysis comes as Iranian military officials issued escalatory warnings and the UN urged diplomatic efforts to prevent wider regional war.
