Jack Weis has applied to more than 2,300 jobs since he graduated from Princeton in 2024 with his Ph.D. in chemical engineering. He still doesn’t have a job. https://t.co/noQ2cVz9OG
@desitechsuppoat@kroger Stop. It’s not ok to say “Appears to be an H1B” … Making assumptions about someone's legal status based on their appearance, accent, or name is highly problematic no matter who it’s about.
@desitechsuppoat@USAA I’m a USMC vet and former Amazon & AWS recruiter. Veteran status is not a protected class under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. There are other statutes though. If USAA is “only” considering certain talent and not what’s in the BQ’s, that would be a violation.
@RedPillRabbit Never felt like an outsider until I worked at AWS. Wouldn’t be bad if Americans/locals were welcomed into their fold but we’re not. I’m often shunned or ignored. After 20+ yrs here I’ve become an outsider in my east Seattle neighborhood. We’re being forced out by exclusion.
@amandalouise416 Between 60% to 80%+ of new jobs go to foreign-born individuals.
As of late 2026, foreign-born workers hold a record 31.25 million U.S. jobs.
According to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). https://t.co/KIktPpZhFI
This staffing company is recruiting for U.S. IT jobs but explicitly limits applicants to H-4 EAD holders, green card EAD holders, and green card holders.
American citizens need not apply.
@desmo_dude@KYRRadio It’s already ugly. Worse than ugly. At least 95% of my local neighbors sold & relo’d in the past 3 years and their homes were bought by foreigners. Most of whom I can’t have an English convo with. I’m now an outsider. Between taxes, H1-B’s and Ai, locals have few job options.
@johnnyboylc@KYRRadio@fugitivemama Definitely not a trickle. It’s a mass panic to mass exit. So many homes for sale in my neighborhood. Haven’t seen it this bad since the Great Recession which Seattle didn’t recover from until 2014. I saw this coming but still had my AWS job until mass layoffs last year.
@KYRRadio Taxes are killing WA! Seattle area locals are barely hanging on. I’ve been here 20+ years. Worked at WaMu Corporate in the Great Recession. Lost that job & co but WA recovered. Worked at Amazon & AWS. Lost that job last year, yet still paid $13k in property taxes this year.
@DeplorableATX Explains why there aren’t enough jobs for everyone in this country - but I don’t blame H-1B’s. It’s not their fault our government, political leaders & big tech
/big co CEO’s made this happen. It’s rampant here in Seattle too. I’m a local and lost my job at AWS last year.
@KimGeorgeton We need politicians and policies to stop this from continuing to happen. My entire org was cut at Providence Health & Services, a “not for profit” in the Seattle area. 700 local jobs were given/sent to India & the Philippines in 2018/2019. Executive pay was/is more important
@charliebilello Add to that, mass layoffs & H-1B preferred hiring and it’s the perfect storm for an economic collapse here in Seattle, especially for locals. I’ve been here over 20 years and it’s become a shell of what it once was in just the last 2.5 years.
@SanDiegoKnight Companies have been selling American workers out like this for the last 20+ years. Myself and many other locals thought our jobs were safe at #ProvidenceStJosephHealth in Seattle but they outsourced HR and Recruiting to India & the Philippines in Q1 2020. Tragic loss.
BREAKING: After my tweet went viral, the University of Oklahoma’s previously publicly accessible H-1B hiring notices are now redirecting visitors to a university login portal.
Why is the university restricting public access to these documents?
The H-1B visa system has been abused for its nearly forty-year history, allowing employers to routinely sideline American STEM workers in favor of cheap foreign labor.
Rep. Roy joined @RepGosar and 11 other Members of Congress in calling for an end to H-1B visa abuse.
