Statement Delivered by Eritrean Delegation at 79th World Health Assembly
18 May-23 May 2026, Genève
"The theme of this Assembly - 'Reshaping Global Health: A Shared Responsibility' - reflects Eritrea’s long-standing commitment to self-reliance and health sovereignty... Over the past three decades, Eritrea has steadily widened access to quality health care. Preventive, promotive, and curative services are broadly available and heavily subsidized. Investments in hospitals, clinics, and community programs have brought care closer to home. Today, most people, even in the remote areas, live within five kilometers of a functioning health facility".

Mischaracterizations Surrounding Prospects for Eritrea-United States #Rapprochement
The #Embassy of the State of #Eritrea in Washington, D.C. takes note of the recent article published by The Wall Street Journal on prospects for resetting relations between Eritrea and the United States.
While the article acknowledges Eritrea's strategic importance in the #Horn of #Africa and the #RedSea corridor, it advances selective narratives with the evident intention of undermining the timely opportunity for constructive engagement. Indeed, and in the same vein, certain, self-styled, pundits have subsequently reverted to alarmist interpretations across media and social platforms, recycling discredited claims and attempting to cast unwarranted doubt on any positive trajectory in Eritrea-U.S. relations. Such commentaries are neither objective nor constructive; essentially, they represent hired lobbyist advocacies disguised as "independent" analysis.
A fundamental reality must be recognized. Decades of pressure, sanctions, and isolation have not produced positive outcomes, neither for #US policy objectives nor for regional stability. There is now increasing acknowledgment, even within U.S. policy circles, that a shift towards engagement, rather than misplaced and unwarranted coercion, is both necessary and overdue. Attempts by some commentators to portray this shift as dangerous reveal more about entrenched biases than about actual conditions on the ground. The persistence of such narratives, often repeated loudly on social media without evidence, reflects a deliberate effort to obstruct progress rather than inform public understanding.
Eritrea's position has been consistent and principled. Since independence, it has pursued a policy anchored in #sovereignty, non-interference, and an independent development policy that eschews structural and perpetual dependency. Eritrea does not subscribe to dependency-based models. Instead, it promotes mutually beneficial partnerships rooted in trade, investment, and respect for national ownership of development priorities; an approach aligned with evolving global trends. Attempts by certain analysts to caricature this policy orientation only expose a lack of seriousness and analytical rigor.
Assertions that improved relations would embolden instability lack credibility.
Eritrea has consistently upheld territorial integrity, international law, and peaceful coexistence. Its regional policy has been guided by, and is anchored on, legitimate security considerations and a clear commitment to stability in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea basin. The repeated efforts by some voices to suggest otherwise, often in inflammatory tones, amount to little more than noise intended to distract from substantive policy discussions.
Equally flawed is the narrative that lifting unilateral U.S. sanctions would have negative consequences. These measures were unwarranted, selectively applied, and counterproductive. They neither advanced peace nor served strategic interests. Their continued defense by a narrow circle of commentators, despite clear evidence of their legality and utility, raises questions about the motivation behind such positions.
As pronounced on several occasions, Eritrea has always been keen to cultivate a respectful, forward-looking, and constructive engagement based on mutual respect, non-coercion, and sovereign equality. The path forward requires moving beyond ineffective policies and dismissing unproductive narratives, particularly those amplified by the whimsical intent of certain individuals bent on derailing progress.
A balanced, fact-based, approach will better serve both nations and contribute to lasting peace and stability in the region.
The commotion of the usual, faint-hearted, Conflict Entrepreneurs (እፍሊ ሓንጨመንጪ) is appalling indeed.
This attitude is glaringly evident/manifested, especially this week, both in its condescending variant as well as in their pretentious posturing when they act as "Viceroys" who have the "prerogative and authority" to determine the political affairs, destiny, and international relations of Eritrea in particular and the Horn of Africa region broadly.
Eritrea will not, of course, be derailed by the perennial ill-will of these inconsequential detractors and it will, as ever, pursue its positive and constructive policies of cultivating and consolidating its regional and global ties of cooperation and partnership on the basis of mutual interests and shared objectives.
UNHCR Guidance Note on #Eritrea: Fact, Context, and the Politics of Omission
Ministry of Foreign Affairs
22 April 2026
A comprehensive and nuanced response that elucidates the gross factual, legal, and methodological flaws and distortions that characterize the latest UNHCR Guidance Note on Eritrea.
The poignant fact is that this has become almost a ritual pattern with this Agency.
Indeed, this was the case with its 2009/11 Eligibility Guidelines which were circulated to various governments in a rather stealthy manner without prior interaction with, or notification to, the GoE.
For reasons best known to itself, the UNHCR has, and continues to act, as the principal proponent - the Trojan Horse so to speak - of the agenda of "strategic depopulation" against Eritrea. Its periodic reports remain sheer compilations of notorious, NED-funded and affiliated, outfits that harbour hostile agendas against Eritrea.

The stale blabbering of Potemkin Party's senior officials, and affiliated back-stabbers, is again on the rise these days.
The Party's leader, as well as minions such as Gen. Tsadkan, are resuscitating the same provocative and discredited arguments of "sovereign access to sea"; the same unlawful recipe of regional destabilization, with heightened shrill and frenzy.
These toxic policies have and continue to be roundly rejected by the international community. The purpose of the recent intensified campaign seems, accordingly, directed at their domestic constituencies to deflect attention from real and profound problems that the country is grappling with.

#Eritrea - Statement by Foreign Minister Osman Saleh at the Geneva Conference on Unilateral Sanctions
"The international order is increasingly characterized by the normalization, expansion, and quiet institutionalization of unilateral coercive measures. Their scope has widened, their application intensified, and their reach extended far beyond national jurisdictions. This evolution has unfolded largely outside the framework of multilateral legitimacy and in tension with the foundational principles of international law, sovereign equality, non-interference, and the importance of the Charter of the United Nations".
https://t.co/74LNTq2Zou
Potemkin Party's antics and theatrics seem to increasingly transcend the bounds of rationality.
This is the only explanation for the bizarre conference that the Institute of Foreign Affairs convened this week under the theme: "Inclusive Maritime Governance". Speakers included some obscure and hired "pundits" as well as the senior officials of a Ghost Navy.
The Horn of Africa countries have roundly and firmly rejected, without equivocation or ambivalence, the Potemkin Party's quest for "sovereign access to the Sea" as toxic and avoidable threat to regional peace and security.
The response from the international community has, likewise, been the same.
And yet, Potemkin Party officials and minions seem to double down and indulge on this perilous path.
The multi-layered ramifications of this delusional policy are otherwise very evident as the attached link elucidates: "ካብ ጉይይ ምውዓል፥ ክሳድ ምሓዝ"!

The “Sovereign Sea Gate” Delusion: Ethiopia’s Expansionist Narrative Disguised as Strategy https://t.co/DG4hJR0kFW
#Eritrea's defining attributes and gold-standard of renowned resilience; unparalleled social cohesion; and rich heritage of walking in lock-step in all conceivable circumstances have, and continue to remain, elements of extreme annoyance and despair to the notorious clique of hired lobbyists and Conflict Entrepreneurs - እፍሊ ሓንጨመንጪ/ጋንታ ገናዞ።
Reason why we see them resort to, and spew, vitriol intermittently; especially during quarterly/periodic paydays.
https://t.co/hppIRBxnTg
The Potemkin Party's boringly sterile campaign of disinformation against Eritrea to rationalize its illicit and delusional agenda of "sovereign access to the sea" continues unabated by floating shifting ruses at different times.
Revisionist history bordering on political blasphemy; bogus economic and trade arguments for "legitimizing" brazen breach of foundational international pillars on sovereignty and territorial integrity... etc. were invoked in the past two years ostensibly to hoodwink its domestic constituencies and garner some external support.
When these gimmicks lost traction, the new ploy shifted to accusing Eritrea for "acts of regional destabilization" in order to re-package its irredentist and expansionist agendas in the language of "self-defence".
These days, the new variant/mutation seems to revolve on falsely portraying Eritrea as a "malleable proxy" of extraneous forces with detrimental ramifications to peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.
Eritrea's celebrated and well-known policies on political independence and national dignity in its international relations; its principled and consistent stance on nurturing its multi-layered ties of cooperation with its international partners on the basis of symmetry and mutual interest that eschew structural dependency, are too well-known to merit a long discourse here.
In the event, the PP's new ploy belie's its own track-record and innate proclivity to cater for external agendas that are not in consonance with the enduring interests and welfare of the nations and peoples of the Horn.

Potemkin Party: the political theatrics is increasingly bordering on absurdity!
The same monotonous chorus; the same toxic and illicit quest for "sovereign" access to the sea packaged and re-packaged on every auspicious occasion. The hymn has to be recited - as a rule of thumb - by all senior PP officials, the Party Head, the top military brass, and even the nominal Head of State these days!
Celebration of Renaissance Dam or Commemoration of Adwa Victory... each and every public event invoked and misconstrued to "legitimize" what is utterly unlawful. Raw irredentist and expansionist ambitions, which are fraught with grave consequences to regional peace and security, whitewashed and "sanitized" as "imperatives for development" while in effect they constitute seeds of unnecessary turmoil and conflict.
Potemkin Party's illicit and delusional agenda is not what the Horn of Africa deserves or needs; this is indeed legal/international relations 101.
My visit to #Eritrea offered a meaningful moment of reflection on the layers of engagement that shape national progress, from observing developments in strategic towns like #Assab and the historic resilience of Nakfa, to witnessing community realities firsthand. Moving across these spaces underscored how policy, partnership, history, and lived experience intersect in tangible and often humbling ways...Such moments serve as a reminder that progress is not only measured in projects or plans, but in dialogue, perspective, and shared commitment to long-term national vision.
My visit concluded with a thoughtful exchange with H.E. President Isaias Afwerki, a conversation that reinforced the importance of continuity, strategic alignment, and sustained engagement on national priorities. Development and governance are best understood not from distance, but through direct engagement with people and institutions shaping the country’s path forward...
Good Read - Gold Prospectors without Shovels, Sieves or Washing Bowls: A Visit to the Emba Derho Mine in Eritrea; By Martin Zimmermann
Geologically speaking, around 60 per cent of Eritrea’s territory belongs to the Arabian-Nubian Shield (ANS). The term ‘shield’ is used in geology to describe large areas of exposed crystalline magmatic and highly metamorphic rocks from the Precambrian era that form tectonically stable areas. These rocks are more than 570 million years old, some even 2 to 3.5 billion years old. The ANS is one of the largest Precambrian rock formations in the world, rich in easily mineable raw material deposits".

#Condolences: Funeral Services for Professor Asmerom Legesse held today at Asmara's Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery in the presence of senior Government Ministers and PFDJ officials, religious leaders and his family.
A prominent and illustrious academician and anthropologist who had produced seminal research work on various themes during his tenure at Harvard and other Universities, Professor Asmerom served his nation and people in various capacities in the past four decades.
These include, among others:
1. Professor Asmerom was Chairman of the US Branch of the Eritrean Relief Association from 1984 until independence in 1991;
2. He published well-researched documents on the atrocities that the Ethiopian regime perpetrated against Eritrea during the 1998-200 border war;
3. Professor Asmerom also documented and widely publicized the unlawful expulsions and gross crimes that the Ethiopian regime committed against Eritreans and Ethiopians of Eritrean origin in 1998;
4. Prof. Asmerom likewise documented and exposed extensive gender-based violence perpetrated by the Ethiopian army during its occupation of various areas, and particularly in the Senafe sub-zone during the border war.
Professor Asmerom passed away in the US at the age of 94 due to illness.
Tibor Nagy: political maverick with an axe to grind against #Eritrea;
Embassy of the State of Eritrea, Washington, DC; 26 February 2026
*"...The former US Assistant Secretary of State for Africa indeed lacks academic and analytical credentials, and more importantly, personal integrity and honesty as his lop-sided positions and views on the Horn of Africa are often influenced by his lobbying contracts and unorthodox political networks".
*"...In a nutshell, Tibory Nagy digresses to dwell on tangential and distorted narratives primarily and principally because his central objective is to divert attention from the root cause of the current problem: the Ethiopian regime’s willful and deplorable agenda of war and conflict in pursuit of what it calls 'sovereign access to the sea' by invading the sovereign territory of its neighbor. This dangerous act cannot be justified and rationalized by other fallacious pretexts and narratives. Tibor Nagy is not, evidently, in a position to deliver on this account because he is under the beck and call of his financial sponsors; veritable cases, as it were, of 'who pays the piper calls the tune'!"
