🚨 Have you ever wondered: "When it comes to car windows, is thicker always better?" 👀

🎙️ TL;DR: Not anymore. Thinner glass means a lighter car, but @Tesla's new tech makes it 25% stronger and significantly faster to break out of in an emergency 🆒

According to Tesla China VP Grace Tao, Tesla engineers threw out the old rulebook by using chemically tempered glass. They managed to reduce the inner pane's thickness to a mere 1.1 millimeters, yet actually boosted overall strength by about 25%—all while shaving 4.4 pounds (2 kg) off the car's total weight.

More importantly, the standard double-pane laminated windows used across the industry stack two 2.6 mm layers together, making them incredibly difficult to smash from the inside during an emergency. Tesla's design slashes the time it takes to break the glass and escape in a crisis, making it dozens of times faster than traditional windows.

You won't find these metrics on a standard spec sheet, and you’d never notice them during your daily commute. But for our engineers, if it impacts your safety, Tesla goes all out.
