As the Labour Party prepares itself for a likely leadership election, our (@MedicalAidPal) latest poll with @savechildrenuk and @christian_aid shows Labour members have had enough of the current government's inaction on Palestine.

An Israeli strike in southern Lebanon killed six of one family including a two-year-old boy. Dr Mina is in our report focussing on the targeting of health workers and first responders in Lebanon. Labour and Gaza. The Labour government has failed the Palestinian people and not used its convening power to make illegal settlements on the west bank untenable economically, Emily Thornberry Labour chair of the foreign affairs select committee has said.
She said "we knew and we have to remember that recognition was only the first step. Where is the second step, where is the tenth step, what are we doing?
"Anyone who believes that what Gazans have right now is a genuine ceasefire has to look at what the truth is. They need to look at the pictures of the children who have been bitten by rats as they sleep in displacement camps in mountains of rubble. More than 72,000 Palestinians have been killed but we also know that the death toll continues to rise during this so-called ceasefire. Over 700 have been killed in Gaza since Donald Trump proclaimed “the greatest moment in humanity’."
Pointing out that Benjamin Netanyahu had made his announcement that Israel intends to take over 70 % of Gaza whilst in an illegal settlement on the west bank, she said the sense of impunity is staggering”.
She said “I have always been so proud that Britain has always realised the importance of international law. It is something we are strong on, probably for good reason since much of international law was written by British lawyers, but when it comes to Palestine we have fallen well short and in doing so we have failed the Palestinian people.
She pointed out no UK govt response had been issued to the ICJ opinion issued in 2024 on the unlawful occupation of the territories.
"The facts are unavoidable. If you accept the advisory opinion that the occupation is unlawful and states should do everything they can not to facilitate them, then there are certain actions that should follow logically.
"We should be banning the import of goods produced in illegal settlements. We should be going further. We should be placing sanctions on those involved in the settlements. We should be making sure we are stopping the involvement of any British companies. We should be coming down hard on insurance networks. We should be making it clear that it is not possible to construct settlements on the west bank and we are going to do everything to stop it".
She said it was also necessary for the UK to try to revive the group of states that backed the recognition of Palestine in 2025. "Let’s together act together so we make sure that it is so economically painful for Israel that settlement expansion is untenable because what is happening in the west bank is untenable – families driven from their homes, communities under constant threat, Palestinians being lynched in the streets. That is what we should be confronting. Words of condemnation are just not going to cut it".
"The tragedy of Gaza is a lesson of what happens when you do too little too late. We failed to intervene early enough. We failed to apply enough pressure when pressure might have made a difference and we cannot let the west bank suffer the same fate.
"As to Gaza we just have to stop pretending what exists today is a ceasefire because it is not.
"If both sides were implementing Trump’s 20 point plan, Israel would be withdrawing, instead it is advancing, Hamas would be disarming, but instead Hamas is consolidating, and aid should be flowing in, and instead NGOs are banned. There is no international stabilisation force. There is no money for reconstruction, There is no ceasefire and there is no peace. This Is what Trump does. He publishes a piece of paper. He calls it a great victory. He calls it 'the greatest peace from the greatest President ever" then he calls it a day and then he walks away. Out of the news means out of mind. But the Gazans are going nowhere and yet where is the progress.? It is completely intolerable yet we tolerate it. Where are the international summits? Where is the urgency? Where is the sustained diplomatic effort? We need Palestine back in the headlines and we need Britain to be playing a leading role in making that happen".

REVEALED: Inside Israel’s war on paramedics.
The National investigated four cases in which Israeli strikes killed first responders while they were carrying out rescue missions.
In each case, the paramedics were clearly identifiable as rescuers, and there was no indication of an immediate military threat that would justify the attack.
Legal experts said the cases reveal a pattern that appears "deliberate" and shows "clear intent" to target paramedics. 1/
Urgent calls for restraint as the ancient city of Tyre is hit by multiple Israeli airstrikes following orders to leave from the Israeli military. The Israeli military has now declared the entire south of Lebanon a combat zone - covering 250-300 towns and villages. ‘We urge you to act now to stop this escalation’ - UN Peace ambassador appeals to global leaders @ambdanialachkar
"Week after week, we hear the same thing, on the situation in Gaza, West Bank, and East Jerusalem, it's bad, and it is. I was in Gaza earlier this month, only my second time, and it's just there are no words," said Dr Reinhilde “Renee” Van de Weerdt the WHO rep for the occupied Palestinian territory. "You think you are prepared, but nothing prepares you for #Gaza," she added.
Van de Weerdt briefed reporters in Geneva. Her update is worth a listen - https://t.co/1SQqobBWI1
The mistreatment and taunting of the flotilla activists is obviously horrible but why comment only on this and not the rape, torture, neglect and murder of Palestinian prisoners that is equally well documented?
🚨URGENT: Palestinians in Khan al-Ahmar face imminent risk of forcible displacement, following an order to expel and demolish their homes and infrastructure.

WATCH | Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir shamelessly threw a humiliating “welcome party” for detained Global Sumud Flotilla activists, who were abused, held in a grueling stress position, and forced to listen to Israel's national anthem.
Israel is exporting its Gaza model to Lebanon.
Demolition by demolition, the Israeli military is changing the face of southern Lebanon, razing towns and villages to create a buffer zone. Israeli officials say it’s necessary to protect its residents from Hezbollah threats.
In Gaza, women give birth while fearing bombardment, within a healthcare system that's been systematically dismantled by the Israeli military.

Palestinians are still being killed by Israeli military attacks, hunger and treatable illnesses – aid is still being denied entry and Israel's genocide in Gaza still continues.
🔴 Israel’s genocide, occupation and blockade must end now.
The Israeli Defense Forces have issued an evacuation order for Beirut’s Jnah area, which includes two major referral hospitals; the Rafik Hariri University Hospital and Al Zahraa Hospital. At this time, no alternative medical facilities are available to receive approximately 450 patients from the two hospitals (including 40 patients in the ICU), rendering their evacuation operationally unfeasible. Both facilities are operating at full capacity, including treating the injured from the strikes of 8 April. This zone also encompasses the @mophleb complex, and hosts five shelters accommodating more than 5000 people.
I urge Israel to reverse this order and ensure the protection of all health facilities, health workers, patients and civilians.

"The UK government cannot pick and choose when to uphold international law ... The world cannot allow Gaza’s horrors to be replayed in Lebanon; nor should our government be an ally to Israel’s atrocities" @MedicalAidPal CEO Steve Cuts in the Guardian https://t.co/DIylU5EzV2
Israeli Defence minister says:’All homes in villages near the border in Lebanon will be destroyed, according to the model of Rafah and Beit Hanoun in Gaza, in order to permanently remove threats near the border to northern residents’ in Israel.
Our medics were not missing… they were buried.
Buried beneath a silence heavier than words, and beneath pain beyond endurance.
The survivor, Asaad Al-Nassasra, speaks—his voice bearing witness to loss;
to companions who left with him on a humanitarian mission, but he returned alone… leaving them under the soil without a farewell.
And on March 30, 2025, the truth emerged as it is:
bodies concealed, souls departed, and a wound that will never close.
They were deliberately killed by Israeli occupation forces.
This is not a story of survival…
but a testimony to a tragedy that will remain.
