Most people consume far more sodium than recommended.
WHO recommends adults consume less than 5g of salt per day, equivalent to less than 2g of sodium.
Check labels, choose lower-sodium products and gradually reduce the salt you use.
#SaltReduction
Four simple habits can make food shopping more informed:
• Read nutrition information
• Compare similar packaged foods
• Choose lower-sodium options
• Limit sugary drinks
Better choices begin with better information.

Food choices are easier to improve when we know what to look for.
Read the label. Compare similar products. Choose lower-sodium options. Reduce how much salt you use over time.
Small changes, repeated consistently, can support better heart health.

Video Highlights from the Salt Awareness Week 2026
The Centre for Communication and Social Impact, alongside other partners, supported a street awareness campaign to educate the public on the importance of reducing salt intake.
We're slowly burying our people with what we put on their plates. This is not about paperwork. It's about a mother trusting the food she buys will not quietly make her children sick.
We need to fix the food system before hospitals become the fastest-growing industry we have left.
The street campaign was led by the Network for Health Equity and Development (NHED).
The campaign, which took place across the Wuye and Utako axis in Abuja, engaged residents and passersby on the health risks associated with excessive salt consumption.

Most of the salt we consume daily is already hidden in everyday foods.
This Salt Awareness Week, we are raising awareness on hidden salt, healthier food choices, sodium reduction, and the importance of clear food labelling

Let your health guide your Test
Did you know? Excessive salt is silently harming your health.
Disguised as tasty snacks and meals, it’s hidden in everyday foods, including breads, sauces, snacks, and restaurant meals, but silently raises your blood pressure and increases your risk of heart disease.
Watch this video to learn how it impacts your health.

Well done, Dr. Thank you for always pushing for the general interest of the public and your efforts in improving Nigeria's health outcomes.
Usually, the issue with such products carrying NAFDAC number is around one of the things you mentioned in the comment, where such product is registered as a supplement and marketed as a cure. That also raises another question as the marketing materials were meant to be approved by NAFDAC.
In order cases, producers use just one NAFDAC number (for a correctly approved product) across a range of products, misleading the consumers.
The most unfortunate part is that NAFDAC might not get to see these products until their attention is called to it. This is why your post is very important and I hope that @NafdacAgency gets to see this, investigate it, and take appropriate action.
