Noida Workers’ Protest: UP police built a ‘conspiracy’ case around a WhatsApp group. @samrraiqbal & @teulipp tracked two govt insiders in it who sent inciting messages.
One was never probed, the other got bail in two weeks.

Behind the Scenes of Journalism: Some months back @samrraiqbal and @teulipp said they wanted to pick up investigative journalism with @reporters_co.
One of them is a student of journalism, the other had just about completed a course on investigative journalism with me.
Wary that a massive investigation might stretch them, I suggested they pick up a narrow project to begin with. Something that can be Fortunately, they didn't listen to me.
"Nahee, we want to do something solid with @reporters_co."
They had been tracking the violence that followed Noida workers' protests and wanted to pursue it. The two said they wanted to dig into it. We agreed to it.
We had only one brief: Don't focus on those arrested labourers, artists and others. Many have done superb work on that. Track down the instigators of violence. The ones UP Police is playing blind to.
Over months, they read thousands of pages of evidence. They tracked down the instigators of violence - one is a UP sub-inspector. The other, officially, a driver in the Union finance ministry. I wouldn't say they were not scared. But, they were all so ready to overcome that and confront the perpetrators.
They met dozens of sources and witnesses.
Weeks after week, they work closely with @furquansid as editor to stack up the evidences, to draw logical conclusions, to verify legal claims and assertions.
They went through layers of legal and factual reviews. The three sharpened the story over more than a month.
I request, read their story to see what a village of good journalism, even on shoe-string budget, can produce.
Read, to know how young Indian journalists are producing stellar work even as the business of journalism crumbles under pressures of all kinds, including the brittleness of the gov't.
This is the kind of work, that many of my colleagues at @reporters_co do week after week,
They don't go out chest beating, they go about their work with modesty and doggedness. They acknowledge the need of adapting to new forms of media but they refused to become slaves to the distribution form. They believe in and render classical journalism, which holds the powerful to account. And, do so relentlessly and consistently, not as a one-off.
If this is what two early-stage journalists can produce as their first, given an opportunity, under today's circumstances, then we have reasons to hope.
They make me believe everyday: We aren't done yet. We won't give up.

Much has been said about Uttar Pradesh Police's high-handedness during the workers' protest in Noida.
But have you seen and heard stories of the women who bore the brunt of its repression?

Delhi Deleted!
Only 1 voter left in a polling booth in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk - 908 names deleted!
As per the voter list of 1-1-2025, Polling Booth number 33 in AC Chandni Chowk had 909 voters. Kamal Lal, a resident, told us that the jhuggi cluster was demolished in 2023 but the residents continue to live there. They voted in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections elections and the 2025 Delhi Assembly Elections.
During the SIR process, residents submitted their enumeration forms- in fact, many even have the acknowledgment signed by the BLO. However, the minutes of meeting of BLO-BLA of the polling booth wrongly state that only 1 enumeration form was collected during house to house visits.
The deletion list (ASDD) of this polling booth records 728 deletions during SIR while 180 deletions appear to have been made in the pre-SIR mapping exercise!
Now the residents are being told unless they furnish electricity or water bills or proof of land ownership they can’t be on the voter list. This is completely absurd. The ECI manual recognises the right of even homeless people to be registered as voters.
@CeodelhiOffice must immediately address this mass disenfranchisement.
Justice Atul Sreedharan and Justice Achal Sachdev's observation for Noida DM Medha Roopam, also daughter of chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar

Concerns regarding Delhi SIR
Dear @CeodelhiOffice
We examined the deleted voters list (ASDD list) for 3 polling stations in Delhi after the first phase of the SIR, and found the following problems:
1. ASDD list does not mention the addresses of the deleted voters, making any public scrutiny extremely difficult.
2. To access the addresses of deleted voters, one has to look for their entry in the old voter list. The ASDD list states the part number and serial number of the old list. However, it does not specify which list (there are 4 lists on the ECI portal for 2025) and the link to access it.
3. There is a serious error when trying to access the old voter list- the polling station numbers and names have been completely mixed up. For instance, if you search for the voter list of Jagdamba Camp, you get “part number and name: 122-Jagdamba Camp”, but when you download the list, it is actually the voter list of GK- II. One has to download the list which is titled “96-Chirag Delhi” which opens the list of “96-Jagdamba Camp”!
4. The Delhi CEO has placed the minutes of the meetings of BLO-BLAs of each polling station in the public domain, which is a very welcome step. However, in several cases, the reason for deletion in the minutes does not match the reason given in the ASDD list. All the voters classified under ‘EF Refused’ (Enrollment Form Refused) in the minutes of meeting of polling station 96 of Assembly Constituency 50 are classified as ‘Untraceable/Absent’ in the ASDD lists. For instance, for a voter- Ram Sevak, in the minutes, the reason for deletion is recorded as ‘EF Refused’ (Enrollment Form Refused) but in the ASDD list for his polling station, the reason is ‘Untraceable/Absent’. These appear contradictory- was the person present and refused the enumeration form OR was he Untraceable/Absent.
5. Aadhaar has been made mandatory for anyone who wants to challenge their deletion. The ASDD list states on top- “Dissatisfied persons can submit their claim along with a copy of their Aadhaar card.”
