It’s astonishing to be on the inside and see how the SMU network supports each other. The young men and their families may not realize it, but they are joining something much bigger than a university, it’s a FAMILY!! The power of the Mustang network is UNREAL!! #MustangConnected
It’s easy to talk about wins, rankings, recruiting classes, and facilities.
The real magic is in stories like this.
What’s happening in Dallas is about people first. That’s why it’s working.
.@toa_katoa is special to me.
The last conversation I had with his mother, Si’i, before she passed away 3 years ago, I told her that Toa had a future in college football & would be able to create great opportunities for himself.
That confirmed the feelings Si’i already had in her heart.
I promised her family that I’d do my part in helping Toa in his journey.
Toa was young, brokenhearted, & I would’ve showed a ton of grace had he crashed out.
Instead — he grew up, his grades were steady, never stepped out of line, kept his emotions in check, lost nearly 75 pounds, & was mindful of his role as a big brother.
I don’t know how he does it but I know why he does it.
On his right forearm is a tattoo of his last name, the interior is his mother’s last heart beat, & his left arm is a clock with exact time she passed away.
#MakeMommaProud isn’t just his hashtag — it’s how he intentionally lives his life every single day to honor his mother.
Yesterday’s Mustang Splash was one of the best events I’ve ever been a part of.
Along with the fun competition & water balloon fights were meaningful conversations & REALationship building.
Big thanks to all those who joined us to fellowship with one another.

NEW: From the shadows, Scott Nady's been at forefront of SMU's resurgence on the field and in Dallas.
"I know for a fact it means everything to him."
