Martinez can and should never be dubbed a villain.

He played a decade at Arsenal. He was first choice for a few months and that'd be the biggest months of his life because they gave him discovery. The point he knew he was ready for the next step in his career.

That deal to Aston Villa was good for all parties. Arsenal collected £20m and sold a goalie who was at the right stage and age to become first choice.

Everything worked out for every party involved. Martinez chose himself and his biggest critic would have done the same in the same situation.

The Interesting thing about him, is the fact that he isn’t naturally a defender but a Central midfielder .

In his days with Enyimba, he formed a formidable title winning partnership with Ikenna Cooper—at the heart of the Elephant Park.

What is more astonishing ?…his magnificence nonetheless, he wasn’t (for me) - the best midfielder in the league at the time ! —It was a guy named Morice Chukwu ( a faultless talent for Rivers United)….who interestingly has also been converted to a CB at Singida Black Stars -In Tanzania.

Every time I see Chibuike Nwaiwu and how far he has come, I remember that sunny afternoon in Aba …when I saw him walking dejectedly in his “bathroom slippers” …He had just returned from Ethiopia or Isreal(rumored)—after being declared AWOL by Enyimba. Even with a forlorn countenance…he managed to tell me he was okay!!

The rest they say is history —and he is surely on his way to more greatness !!
