Yes, Texas has unions. Ours represents K-12 & higher ed public school employees. Affiliated w/ @AFTUnion, @AFLCIO. Tweets by President Zeph Capo signed ZC. ✊
Texas AFT will no longer post information to X. A union is a democracy & we always find value in dialogue with those who disagree.
But X goes beyond that. A billionaire with one thumb on the scales of power & the other on global communication should concern us all.
@itzahmesarahp@katy4congress Yes, she has. Not all endorsements are made at once, but they become official when we provide them with the endorsement card. ZC

WATCH 🎥: AFT & @texasaft filed a lawsuit to defend the constitutional rights of our members to speak their minds on their own time. Regardless of your politics, government overreach into your private life is wrong.
We'll always fight for our members.

“The essence of democracy is the right of freedom of speech. We shouldn’t be living in a country where freedom of speech is punished. Private time is private! .” @rweingarten@AFTunion@TexasAFT
Always a good day when teachers are at the Capitol!
I was proud to step out between hearings to visit with members of the @TexasAFT and thank them for their tireless work on behalf of Texas students.
With the House debating major bills affecting public education today—HB 2 and SB 2—there’s no better reminder of what’s at stake than hearing directly from the educators who show up for our kids every single day, in and out of the classroom.
Let’s fully fund our schools, give teachers the raises they deserve, and reject any scam that diverts money from public education.

"This is our 6th hearing on vouchers in two years.
We haven’t had 6 hearings on teacher pay.
We haven’t had 6 hearings on student discipline.
We haven’t had 6 hearings on student mental health.
This isn't about education — it’s about politics." — @jamestalarico#txlege

As a union of educators, we stand for the freedom to #TeachTheTruth; we also will not hesitate to speak truth to power. It is clear X will not allow that so long as its owner can privilege misinformation & throttle factual opposition via algorithm.
Today we honor a Civil Rights leader who has paved the way for so many.

@TexasAFT@CWA6186 TRS & ERS retirees — our state’s former teachers, school district staff, and university & agency employees — dedicated their lives to serving our communities, but our state is failing them in retirement.
Last session’s COLA was a start, but our retirees deserve more. 8/
Texas public school teachers earn around $9k less annually than the national average. Meanwhile, the 2024 @texasaft member survey shows 74.8% of educators are burnt out and 68.9% are thinking of leaving the profession.
Our teachers, students, and communities deserve better! 6/
