We are expanding operations in all affected counties— all while monitoring the rising waters in Kerrville.
9 AM Monday - Lake Buchanan this morning has reached an elevation 1018.32 ft, within 2 feet of full pool at 1020 ft. As a result, the LCRA says they plan to open at least 2 flood gates at Buchanan Dam to pass the water down the highland lake chain to Lake Travis.
The water released from Buchanan Dam will enter Inks Lake and pass over the spillway at Inks Dam which does not have flood gates.
From there the water passes into Lake LBJ, where Wirtz Dam already has a flood gate open this morning to pass floodwaters coming in from the Llano River. The LCRA says additional flood gates at Wirtz Dam may need to be opened.
The water then passes through Lake Marble Falls and through Starcke Dam into Lake Travis. Starcke Dam also has flood gates open currently, and more could be needed.
The water will then be stored in Lake Travis which has risen over 28 ft in the past 2 weeks, but remains about 15 feet below full pool which is an elevation of 681 ft.
Be aware of faster than normal flows on the highland lake chain over the next couple days.
Heavy rain and flash flooding remain a threat in the Texas forecast.☔️

NEW: At least two floodgates will open at Buchanan Dam this afternoon according to the LCRA. Gates will open as soon as Buchanan hits 100% capacity (currently 96% and climbing)
That water will then go into Inks Lake, over the spillway, and into Lake LBJ #atxwx#txwx
While reporting for @TexasMonthly I bumped into a team of cadaver dogs from Mexico.
The support for the difficult work of putting Kerrville and the broken hearts across our state is coming from all over.
More than 20 Texas state agencies are engaged in the state’s flood response across multiple communities.
Thousands of responders and pieces of equipment are deployed in support of local response efforts, including boats, helicopters, K9 teams, and damage assessment teams.

⚠️Alright, time to perk up and pay attention in Austin.
Storms are stalling over Travis county and becoming more expansive with 3-6"/hr rainfall rates. Significant flooding possible soon. Backbuilding occurring to the northwest. STAY AWAY FROM FLOODED ROADS
The LCRA now says that all 10 floodgates may need to open overnight at Starcke Dam to pass flood water down to Lake Travis.
That's a LOT of water moving through LBJ and Marble Falls. Lots of debris will be flowing quickly. I'd hold off on boating for the rest of the weekend
As rain and flooding continue to impact Central Texas, remember:
🌧️Flooding can happen fast
🚘Never walk or drive through floodwaters
⚠️Turn Around, Don’t Drown

Widespread rain, some heavy, continues across the Hill Country. A Flash Flood Emergency is ongoing for south-central Kerr County, including the Guadalupe River. Move to higher ground if you are along the Guadalupe River in Kerr County! Otherwise avoid travel through the county.
AFTERMATH: Homes and vehicles in Kerrville were devastated by severe flooding on the Fourth of July, leaving widespread destruction in its wake.

Happy #Juneteenth2025, a celebration commemorating the freeing of enslaved people in the US.
A US federal holiday since 2021, Juneteenth began in Texas when a Union general delivered news of emancipation on June 19, 1865, after the end of the Civil War. Enjoy this #FreedomDay
I’m proud to share that my bill, SB 2778, has been signed by the Governor! It creates the Credible Messengers Program at @TexasJJD giving formerly incarcerated youth who’ve turned their lives around the opportunity to mentor others still in the system. These young leaders have walked the hard road and come out stronger. Now, they’ll use their story to help others break the cycle and build a better future.
Thank you, Senator @ElectAHinojosa , for partnering with me on this important legislation! #txlege
