The new and final IPCC Working Group 2 Report just dropped. Below I share important findings about disease. This figure comes from FAQ 2.2 | How does climate change increase the risk of diseases? (pp. 233-235) of Chapter 2 found here: https://t.co/bMeNoZKgpp
One last thing - this suggests, but does not prove, that the common ancestor of both the main, and putative minor, bovine H5N1 lineages existed in Texas.
1. @USDA posted an FAQ today about the federal order restricting movement of dairy cattle infected with
#H5N1#birdflu. Interesting information therein.
A 🧵
New to me: USDA says 8 poultry operations in 5 states have had poultry outbreaks with the virus detected in cows.
@aperofsky just released a really cool preprint showing how human movement affects 17 respiratory viruses, "Human mobility impacts the transmission of common respiratory viruses: A modeling study of the Seattle metropolitan area"

@GlobalVectorHub@CNN We've known it has been spreading in South Texas since the 1980s with expansion into NE Texas in the 1990s and 2000s, even making it to SE Oklahoma. Climate change has increased the habitat of this parasite already! The vector sand fly species occur in the eastern USA as well.
BREAKING: @GregCasar wins 🎉
In the midst of the battle over the future of Texas, the people of #TX35 chose to send an organizer and Green New Deal champion to Congress to fight for a better Texas.
I have flown storms for the last six years. This flight to Hurricane #Ian on Kermit (#NOAA42) was the worst I’ve ever been on. I’ve never seen so much lightning in an eye.
This was the eye. You can see the curvature. Understand this is at NIGHT. The light is from LIGHTNING.
@wormmaps We list it 3 times in Ch 2 (twice in infographics with the hope that these are more accessible (FAQ & Cross-Chapter Box) & a 4th time when describing how a lack of anthrax vaccination in Siberia + climate change created a perfect storm of conditions for an outbreak in reindeer.
Despite the tremendous wealth in Austin, 1 in 7 residents don't know where their next meal will come from. @keepaustinfed redistributes food that would otherwise be wasted to feed our food insecure neighbors. Now they have cold storage to help with this critical work!
Come work with me!

The CDC's new Center for Forecasting and Outbreak Analytics is hiring at a level appropriate for graduating PhDs or new postdocs. Note the deadline is SOON (9/28)
Why you should apply:
@wormmaps@viralemergence Leishmaniasis and Chagas disease in Texas and N Mexico, hoping to add other vector-borne diseases and geohelminths in future studies
Do you collect empirical data on wildlife disease prevalence out in nature? Are you interested in being part of @viralemergence's next big experiment in open data sharing? Drop the host-pathogen system you study (and where!) in the replies, and we might reach out 👀 Please RT!
#Climate change is a threat to human well-being and the health of Africa and its ecosystems. Any further delay in concerted global action will miss the brief, rapidly closing window to secure a liveable future for all Africans

It is frankly terrifying that one third of Pakistan is underwater, China is experiencing its worst drought in record, as are the olive-producing regions of southern Spain, and we’re currently only at 1.2C of warming.
Today, we are moving to make America's federally funded research freely accessible to the American public without delay. These changes will save lives & spur innovation in clean energy, cancer breakthroughs, environmental justice, and more.

Nothing about this is pro-life - this is forced birth.
A person should not be forced to risk their life to carry a pregnancy. Pregnancy inherently has risks in every case. And people seek abortion care for terrible circumstances that you could never imagine.
