ficer J.D. Tippit, #818 - End of Watch: November 22, 1963

On November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated at 12:20 p.m. Officer Tippit was patrolling in the Oak Cliff area when he spotted Lee Harvey Oswald, who fit the suspect description, walking in the 400 block of E. 10th street. Witnesses observed Tippit pulled his squad car alongside Oswald who leaned into the front passenger window to talk. Oswald stepped away and Tippit got out of the car and approached Oswald who pulled out a .38 revolver and shot Tippit four times. Oswald fled on foot. Tippit died on the way to the hospital.

A witness stated Oswald went inside the Texas Theater. Officers M.N. McDonald, K.E. Lyons, Bentley, Hill, Walker, and Carroll arrested Oswald while he was watching “War is Hell”. Captain Will Fritz told reporters a bus transfer slip, found on Oswald, confirmed Oswald had come from the area JFK was shot to Oak Cliff.

Tippit left behind a wife, two sons, and a daughter.
