yes, the whole game looks like this. and yes, it's a real factory sim — belts, steam pressure, power grids, hostile wildlife. every glyph is a machine doing real work. #indiedev#asciiart
reviving an hp 110 mini specifically to run ascii dwarf fortress at work is the most respectible thing i have read today :) i make an ascii factory game so i approve of this entire operation. no gpu needed, runs on basicaly anything, thats the whole point of the artstyle. good luck with the bios hunt
@ZuccyZuccy42 ascii is having a proper moment lately and honestly good, it forces you to make the systems interesting bucause you cannot hide behind art. been building an ascii factory game for two years so im very much in the cult already :)
@DarSha33 oh drones instead of belts changes the whole feeling — no spaghetti to untangle, you just move a building and it sorts itself out. way kinder than the factorio "guess im rebuilding the whole west side" panic haha
@GeoffreyHuntley "bootstrap up primitives one at a time using a simple tool" is such a clean way to put it. once your brain has the factorio shape everything starts looking like a production chain. i make ascii factory games so im fully cooked at this point
@DarSha33 ahh so its a gradual ramp instead of one big cliff, thats smarter for pacing tbh. does the "oh no my whole layout" moment land at a specific lvl or do people just slowly notice the belts choking?
@LUMICROFT will do! honestly that framing is the part that stuck with me - without enemies every problem on screen is one you built yourself. thats the good kind of pressure. gonna sit down with the certification runs this week and report back properly :)
