I want to pause the campaign for a minute.

Someone left a comment on my page calling a man an “Uncle Tom.”

His offense? Inviting me to his shop to discuss the issues he’s facing.

There is no version of politics where that is acceptable.

Campaigns have barbs. Always have. I have taken plenty and I have thrown a few too. But this is different. This is abhorrent, and it has no place in Illinois politics.

Telling America that Black people can’t get a photo ID to vote.

Think about how insulting that is.

We’re expected to believe that Black Americans can serve in the military, run businesses, earn college degrees, buy homes, board airplanes, cash checks, open bank accounts, and raise families…

…but somehow we’re incapable of getting a government-issued ID?

Enough.

Stop treating Black Americans like we’re helpless victims who need white benevolent liberals to speak for us.

We’re not a monolith.
We don’t all think alike.
We don’t all vote alike.
And we certainly don’t need Bernie Sanders telling us what we’re capable of.

Every American should meet the same standard when voting. Requiring a photo ID isn’t racist, it’s a basic safeguard that applies equally to everyone.

The soft bigotry of low expectations isn’t compassion.

It’s condescension.

And that’s why we NEED the Save America Act on the President’s desk, NOW.

An older man on a bike got in an altercation with a couple in an SUV who allegedly maced him. This was at 1:30pm at 3640 N Halsted across from Whole Foods and 2 blocks east of Wrigjey Fiekd where the Cubs are playing the Yankees right now. The SUV drove off as the bike rider sat on the curb unable to see.

Two citizens walking helped the man. 911 was called with a firetruck then an ambulance arriving who administered first aid. The man was ok after flushing his face with water by EMTs. After that they waited 30 minutes but no Chicago Police car arrived to file a report. One witness wrote down the license plate while another had some video of the incident.

A Police unit was flagged down who was part of the event detail for the Cubs game who filed the report, @CWBChicago @SubxNews @CPDscannerZone4
