#ZedTwitter is filled with young people still deciding their career trajectories. Here is a thread on real feedback I got from the Zambian Industry yesterday facilitating a Zambian Federation of Employers workshop. It is public information which is useful for career planning:
You know how hard it is to find salary data in Zambia? Well I sort of developed a solution. I built a website! Please help address this gap by entering salary data that you know of ie your current position, previous position etc. It is 100% anonymous, not even I will be able to see your information.

OFF GUNS
When colleagues call to ask how to go about buying a gun and getting a license, I always start with the same questions, What's it for? What are you doing that's sensitive enough to warrant a gun? Is your life actually in danger?
If the answer to any of those isn't a clear yes, I give them an honest talk about firearms.
A gun becomes an extension of your impulses. If you aren't fully trained to handle one, I don't advise acquiring it because the moment your temper rises, the gun is often the first thing that comes to mind. To flex power, to fire a warning shot hoping to scare someone worse more to massage an ego.
It took me over a year of training with a firearm every single day before I qualified, and another ten plus years of weapon handling after that.
That training didn't just teach me to shoot it built the tolerance to know that reaching the point of firing at an unarmed person requires provocation of an entirely different order, something extreme and out of the ordinary.
So when someone comes to me with no training, no existing threat on their life, no justification like handling large sums of money but just an eagerness to own a gun for the flex, or for a false sense of protection that's a red flag.
We only advise people to get a gun if there's a genuine, existing threat to their life, or a real risk tied to the nature of their job and even then, only after proper weapon handling training.
The mind works in strange ways. The moment someone owns a gun without having mastered their own temperament, that gun becomes the first thought in any confrontation. And once a gun is drawn, the next step is almost always to fire! by the time reason returns, the damage is already done.
That's why the rule stands only point a gun at something you intend to shoot.
Careless vs Dangerous Driving
Careless driving is driving below the expected standard e.g forgetting to indicate.
Dangerous/Reckless is knowing your driving is risky but still do it e.g. beating red lights.

Would productivity improve if we started getting paid at an hourly rate?? I mean, if your salary is converted to the hours you’ve put it in the month?? Would that do it? Coz some get to work at 8 and only start “working” after 10 when they’ve had their breakfast..
