What makes this story remarkable is that it happened during WWE’s expansion into Mexico and its partnership with AAA.
A character that began as satire evolved into a genuine celebration of lucha libre.
The audience didn’t reject it, they transformed it into something meaningful
Last night, one of the greatest professional wrestling storylines I’ve ever seen reached its conclusion in Mexico.
I’ve watched wrestling for nearly 40 years, and the story of El Grande Americano became so much more than a wrestling angle.
Here’s my attempt to explain why. 🧵
In lucha libre, there is no greater prize than a championship and no greater loss than a mask.
A mask carries history. Legacy. Sometimes generations of tradition.
For a story built around identity, ownership, and belonging, there was only one ending:
Máscara contra máscara.
In lucha libre, there is no greater stake than your mask.
No championship. No trophy. No accomplishment.
Just your identity.
So there was only one way this story could end.
When the original returned to reclaim El Grande Americano, he discovered something he never expected.
The mask no longer belonged to him.
It belonged to the people.
That’s when the story stopped being about Chad Gable or Ludwig Kaiser.
It became about who truly was El Grande Americano.
The creator. The performer. Or the fans who gave the mask its meaning?
He didn’t just wear the mask.
He embraced Mexico. The language. The culture. The fans.
And somehow, the replacement became more beloved than the original.
Then came Ludwig Kaiser.
A phenomenal wrestler who always seemed one step away from a breakout, but never quite got there.
When he inherited the mask, something unexpected happened.
What made El Grande Americano fascinating is that it began as a joke.
An over-the-top parody created by Chad Gable, an Olympic wrestler whose WWE career felt like it had stalled despite being one of the most talented performers on the roster.
To understand why this story resonated, you first need to understand lucha libre.
In Mexican wrestling, a mask isn’t just part of a costume. It’s identity. Legacy. Family history.
Sometimes, the mask becomes bigger than the person wearing it.
@Tesla_NL_TR This is not likely FSD.
Driver monitoring detects if eyes are open.
Could be the autopilot (auto cruise with lane assist). Which most modern cars offer now.
Although . . . The FSD driver monitoring is not great at detecting if a driver is sleeping if wearing sunglasses.
What a year. @NHL has topped everyone’s expectations this year.
