A wave of protests, whether real or alleged, triggered by rising prices, education sector issues, and a housing crisis, has swept across Europe, with France at the center of these demonstrations and violent clashes recorded in some cities.
Details:
France: Approximately 550,000 people protested across the country. The town hall in Limoges and a tourist office in Lyon were set on fire. Around 1,800 people were detained, and approximately 150 police officers were injured.
Belgium: Protests organized by students in Brussels and Liège escalated into riots. Police used tear gas and water cannons, and around 45 people were detained in Liège.
Italy: Approximately 100,000 people participated in a peaceful protest in Rome, while clashes near the Duomo cathedral in Milan led to the detention of around 50 people.
Portugal: Tens of thousands of people protested against the housing sector crisis and low wages. Protesters set up a tent city in Lisbon and spent the night there.
Albania: Protests organized by students demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama have continued for five days. Hundreds of people were detained, and more than 120 police officers were injured.
Spain: The protest movement against the housing sector crisis brought thousands of people to the streets and led to the creation of tent cities. The protests contributed to the early scheduling of elections for November 29.
Most of the protests are not coordinated with one another, but they are united by anger over rising prices, increasing housing costs, and a lack of funding for public services. Early signs of protest organization have also been recorded in Greece, Germany.
