Do they play up his stupidity a lot? Yes

But by no means is he reduced to one personality trait

He still cares about his friends, shown enjoying time with his family, he still likes to fight, still likes to eat, and is shown being pissed at people suffering

Just because some traits get overplayed does not mean that’s all he is
