During the Hiyaa flat application, I was working at Velana International Airport as a resort representative, but I was disqualified because my company was registered in Noonu Atoll and my job was treated as island/resort work, even though I actually worked in Greater Malé.

I submitted a complaint but never got a response. Later, the final lists changed very little under the next government. I believe both governments failed to properly fix the issue.

The reality is I don’t have a real home. On my island I have only a sofa at my grandmother’s or aunt’s place. If I apply there, I’m told I don’t live there. If I apply in Malé, I’m told I haven’t lived there long enough. People like us are left stuck in between.

Meanwhile, Hiyaa flats are being rented for MVR 15,000–20,000. These homes were meant for people in need.

Before I joined the club, Pep was already an inspiration for me. To become his player and after 9 years end up being the one with most games played under him is truly an honour. He arrived at Man City, and the Premier League couldn’t be dominated playing his way… Well, they were wrong. Not only he dominated, he changed the game in England as he did in other countries before. The hunger and ambition to want more and more even after winning and winning again was a big inspiration. For me personally, he was and will always be my father of football. A lot of the things that many managers in the past thought were weaknesses of my game, he saw it as strengths and understood me from day one. It’s difficult to truly describe the impact Pep has had - not only on Manchester City as a football club, but on everything around it as well. The trophies and achievements speak for themselves. But what made him special was always much bigger than winning.

For me personally, he was never just a manager. He was a mentor, a leader and also a friend.

From the very first day we worked together, he challenged me to see football differently. Every detail mattered. Every meter on the pitch had a purpose. There were moments when his intensity pushed all of us to our limits mentally and physically - but looking back, that obsession with perfection is exactly what made his teams so extraordinary.

What many people don’t see from the outside is the human side of Pep. Beyond football, he is incredibly humble, thoughtful and someone who genuinely cares about the people around him.

Over the years, I was lucky enough to experience that side of him very closely. He made me a better player, but also a better person.

When I look back on my career one day, my time working with Pep will always be one of the defining chapters of my journey.

ManCity without Pep will never be the same again. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me, my family, the football club, the community and Manchester as a whole. 🩵
