FIFA have revealed that Breel Embolo was wrongfully sent off versus Argentina, with FIFA under further scrutiny after Argentina continue to get decisions go in their favour. Embolo was sent off for two yellow card offences, the first of which was for a foul on Leandro Paredes, where upon seeing a replay, it was the Argentinian that initiated the contact and threw himself to the floor, which should have seen him booked for simulation.

The second yellow card was the most controversial moment of the match, where the Swiss forward had initially won his side a free kick with a foul from Paredes. However, upon review, the referee decided that Embolo had dived, and awarded him with a second yellow card. However, they did not show the angle where the initial contact started, and should have in fact remained as a free kick for the striker.

Both yellow card offences should have been overturned, and the player is left unsure of how he was sent off for those offences.
