Reading debates about localization is very interesting and educational.

Here's a somewhat unrelated topic. Let's talk about the localization of songs. There have been many cases in the past where songs that were hits outside Japan were introduced to the Japanese market with Japanese lyrics. This applies not only to pop songs but also to songs used in Disney animations, which are generally localized into the local language.

Now, I love musicals. "RENT" is one of my favorite musicals, and my favorite song from "RENT" would undoubtedly be "Season of Love." There is a Japanese version of "RENT" in Japan, where not only the dialogues but also the songs are localized into Japanese. It's wonderful in its own right. However, ultimately, I prefer the original English version.

Occasionally, a world tour of "RENT" is performed in Japan. Although it is entirely in English, I try to attend whenever possible.

Whether the localization is good or bad, in the end, when I want to engage with something I love, I find myself gravitating back to the original language.
