It’s ironic that autistic people often give so much detail because we want those we speak with to have the fullest, most accurate picture and see our sincerity, yet frequently us giving a lot of detail is misperceived as a sign that we are lying, manipulating or being insincere.
@lehighvalley I hope they win. It sucks to be one of those people who has to pay so much more for a little non-dairy milk. Hopefully this can be used against Starbucks and Wawa too!
I wonder how many quiet Autistic people started off outgoing and loud, but were told during childhood that they were “too much”, and this left them so deflated that they no longer wanted to (or felt they were allowed to) be their vibrant selves and they became quiet out of habit.
Some autistic people may cry when experiencing any strong emotion. When this happens, the autist is most likely in a state of emotional overwhelm and is crying naturally, and not faking it to obtain attention or engage in emotional manipulation. Please don’t *assume* the worst.❤️
"Difficulties with the perception of time can lead to difficulties in the planning aspect of any remedy for executive dysfunction, such as the use of a calendar, scheduling the appropriate amount of time to complete an assignment, and setting short-term goals."
Autistic people may have unusual reactions to pain. It’s common for autistic people to not even flinch at pulling a muscle, breaking a bone or sustaining a huge blow, yet become overwhelmed by a paper cut, a hair rubbing against their face, or certain fabrics touching their skin.
So is being called “annoying” a trigger for most of us or nah?
Seems to me like folks love using that descriptor for neurodivergents.
Certainly we’re not incapable of being annoying, but that’s not exactly the whole story.
@mcall It doesn't help that prices are outrageous too 😞 The amount of homeless people pitching tents throughout Bethlehem is so sad, but affordable housing is next to impossible to find.
