1/ AIPI released a new poll of California this week looking at amendments proposed to the state’s SB1047 regulating frontier AI development. We find that Californians support safety testing requirements and prefer keeping the Frontier Model Division to oversee AI development.
5/ Overall, we still find that 65% of Californians support SB1047 when presented with arguments for and against the bill. Support is particularly strong amongst Democrats with 72% supporting and 20% opposed.

1/ AIPI’s polling on California’s AI regulation bill SB1047 was featured in Politico Pro yesterday. We found 59% of Californians support the legislation and 20% oppose, with support rising to 64% among tech workers and 71% with state Democrats.
3/ Democrats in California think SB1047 should become law, with 66% saying that Governor Newsom should sign SB1047 if it comes to his desk, compared with 7% opposed and 27% that marked not sure.
"According to a recent poll from @TheAIPI ... 59% of respondents agreed that AI companies shouldn’t be allowed to use publisher content to train models while 70% said that the companies should compensate outlets if they want to use copyrighted materials in model training."
