No fewer than 44 medical graduates from the College of Health Sciences, University of Ilorin, have yet to be inducted into the medical profession due to issues relating to overused quotas for medicine.
The clarification came after affected students raised concerns on X (formerly Twitter), lamenting they had yet to be inducted by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
Only today I was reading NARD President's tweet @mohagirei about how there are more senior registrars than house officers. Yet, scores of medical students aren't being allowed to induct in Unilorin.
I'm truly ashamed of my Alma mater and disappointed in the MDCN.
THEY CALLED OUR CRIES "SOCIAL MEDIA RUMORS"
We entered this institution in search of knowledge, and to gain it, we had to trust the school and its system. For eight years, we gave our all to learning and character development.
Imagine spending 9 years in medical school, passing your final exams, and then being told you can't be inducted because of "quota," while your mates start working
44 medical graduates are being held back from induction despite passing their MB exams. After spending nearly a decade in school, they’re facing an "automatic 1-year extra" due to quota issues.
175 students passed their MB, but the school only inducted 150 because of "quota." The remaining 25 (plus 19 resit students) were promised an induction weeks ago.
Fast forward to February, nothing. They’re essentially being forced into an extra year after already spending nearly a decade in school. No house job, no license, just waiting. 🤦🏾♂️.
This needs to be addressed!
MUST WE FRUSTRATE THESE YOUNG TO-BE DOCTORS EVERY TIME?
Dear @officialABAT, President of Nigeria.
We barely have barely have medical doctors in hospitals in Nigeria... why must prestigious medical students suffer like this?
UNIVERSITY OF ILORIN...
Can you allow these medical students graduate?

So, I’m here to open the light on the occurrence happening in university of Ilorin, college of health sciences. It’s going be a long thread, so follow through to get the full gist.
8 years for a 6 year course, and 6 months after passing my final MB… no induction yet.
This experience has been exhausting and disappointing.
University of Ilorin has failed its medical graduates.
Nigeria has failed her medical graduates.
