The healthiest periods in gaming have been during times of fierce competition, Sega vs Nintendo in the 90s and 360 vs PS3 later on.

Sony's games are safe/formulaic and have been for years. Without another player who can actually push back against them, I doubt that will change anytime soon.

But does that matter? There are so many damn good non-exclusive games coming out these days.
