C.S. Lewis warned that modern life and education were making “men without chests” who lacked ordered desire and rightly formed love.
On September 19th, Dr. @bryanchollon, president of @TASeminary, will show how the Prayer Book answers that crisis by forming the affections through worship and prayer.
September 19th at 7:00pm
St. Aidan’s Anglican Church

The glory of God is man fully alive; moreover, man’s life is the vision of God. -St. Irenaeus
The 2027 Prospectus for @TheAnselmHouse is out! And the St Irenaeus quote is a clue to the 2027 theme. Now accepting applications. https://t.co/aTw8ec102L
We follow a *rule of life.* We meet in my home for evening prayer, meals for friendship and virtue formation, and Socratic dialogue over classical texts. Fellows gather for morning prayer and Holy Eucharist at St Aidan’s Anglican Church in Kansas City throughout the week and Sunday worship. In 2027, Anselm Fellows will turn their attention to the mystery of the cosmos,
contemplating the supreme generosity of God in creation. Both in history and
today, the goodness of creation has been questioned, so we will sit at the feet of
St. Irenaeus as he answers the Gnostics. We will then be prepared to consider
Athanasius’s emphasis on the redemption of our humanity by means of our
Lord’s incarnation, as well as Anselm’s insight into the satisfaction made by
Christ on the cross. But to pursue the fullness of the created order, we will also explore the angelic realm with none other than the Angelic Doctor himself, which will help us lean in all the more to those moving words in the Eucharistic liturgy, “Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven...”
When we return from summer, we will extend our Lord’s redemption of creation to his real presence in Holy Eucharist. E. L. Mascall will help us recover the biblical concept of sacrifice, and we will ask how it should and should not be used in the Eucharist as we pay close attention to the fullness of Christ’s work, from his birth to his ascension and intercession. To that end, we will retrieve the voices of the Fathers as well as the Anglican Divines. Closely related, Mascall and Augustine alike will show us what it means to be united as a church around the sacraments, and we will look at the test case of the Donatists and ask what conclusions we should draw for the church today.
Finally, with the 2027 focus on the goodness of God in creation, we will turn our attention to the controversy over images, learning both from the Seventh Ecumenical Council as well as John of Damascus’s apologetic for images on the basis of our Lord’s incarnation. As Anglicans, we will ask why God made us with senses and why these senses matter to worship.
You do not have to be a seminary student to be a Fellow, but for those who desire a degree, you can receive course credit for your time in Anselm House towards a degree @TASeminary.
We only accept a limited number of Fellows. Apply today.
Although we are made of matter, we strangely fail to contemplate the aesthetics of theology. @TheAnselmHouse visited the Nelson-Atkins Museum and each Anselm Fellow presented on a work of art. We saw so many masterpieces, from Caravaggio to van Gogh. 🧶
If you are interested in becoming an Anselm Fellow, visit our website. https://t.co/re1zfnHe0H The 2027 prospectus is coming soon. Each year we accept a select few to join us. Fellows participate in liturgy and sacraments at St Aidan’s Anglican Church here in Kansas City and can receive seminary credit for their fellowship through @TASeminary. I wish I had something like this when I was learning theology.
Investing personally in the lives of Anselm Fellows has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. We gather for evening prayer, a meal to form virtue, and Socratic dialogue over the Great Tradition. @TheAnselmHouse is a special place, a monastic haven of sorts.
“When it comes to what it means to be Anglican … I don’t know if there is a better model than Richard Hooker.” Hear more in the latest Credo Podcast “Why I am an Anglican: Seminary should be sacramental” with @MattMBarrett and The Very Rev. Bryan Hollon, Dean and President of Trinity Anglican Seminary @TASeminary https://t.co/uVG8WHRIkG
The external works of the Trinity are inseparable. Tonight Anselm House meets! Not only will Anselm Fellows discuss Nicaea but Lewis Ayres is helping them understand what being pro-Nicene has to do with ascetics. https://t.co/0KtBg6F7FM
I used to think of morning and evening prayer as something I can fit into my personal “quiet time.” Since becoming Anglican my whole perspective has changed. United to Christ’s body, together we participate in the communion of the saints as we confess the one holy catholic and apostolic church. We are prepping for @TheAnselmHouse to dine and discuss the catholicity of bishops and why they formed a council, the council of Nicaea.
I am preparing the 2027 schedule soon. Look for it: https://t.co/re1zfnHe0H
Look who showed up for the @thecredomag Conference! @trinityanglicanseminary. 😎 so great to see this group recruiting the next generation of Anglicans. Come to Trinity!
@ivpacademic even gave away the Book of Common Prayer to some aspiring Anglicans.
Today is the Feast Day of St Anselm of Canterbury! Almighty God, whose servant Anselm helped your church to understand its faith in your eternal Being, perfect justice, and saving mercy: Provide your church in all ages with devout and learned scholars and teachers, that we may be able to give a reason for the hope that is in us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Much love to all you @TheAnselmHouse Fellows.
Few so capture the hope of our happiness in God like Boethius. Anselm Fellows poured over The Consolation of Philosophy, contemplating why God and happiness are one and the same. https://t.co/MVfiHvPLRm
If not for the grace of God, none of us would be united to Christ. Anselm Fellows read Augustine’s anti-Pelagian works. After a full Holy Week of word & sacrament, @TheAnselmHouse met for evening prayer, dinner, dialogue to contemplate the grace of God. https://t.co/bLpDuaBA6G
Last night was special. After evening prayer, the always dynamic @loumarkos joined @TheAnselmHouse. We talked Plato, Augustine, and City of God. Anselm Fellows even heard about his own family’s Greek heritage. Anselm House might be the best thing I have been a part of. https://t.co/re1zfnHe0H
Rarely will you find a seminary in which each day is measured by the student’s participation in a historic liturgy. The student’s experience is often severed from sacramental participation.
What should theological education look like? https://t.co/R1OuPvXSkD Some new thoughts on the way things should be
🔔 Just finished Plato & Augustine. During the week Fellows participate in liturgy at St Aidan’s Anglican Church in Kansas City, including communion. Some are receiving credit for a degree @TASeminary, up to half their degree and 50% off. Consider applying to be an Anselm Fellow in 2027. https://t.co/re1zfnHe0H
🕯️Theological education needs to be re-formed in our secular age, organically attached to sacramental living. Meet our 2026 @TheAnselmHouse Fellows! 1 yr residency of evening prayer, dinner for virtue formation, Socratic dialogue over classical theology.🧵 https://t.co/bLpDuaBA6G
