-James Caughey (1868)
@EdHird Some years back I made a video about the Hunter & Crossley revivals & Sir John’s conversation. Seems like a forgotten bit of history; I’m glad your article brought them up, too. Here is my video if you’re interested: https://t.co/gwdW3py5Bg

"REVIVAL will not stand without prayer. Let this prayerful agony for souls continue, by day & by night. If much ascends, much descends. What goes up in prayer comes down in showers of blessings. If little ascends, little descends."

-James Caughey (1854)
@Methodist_Prime Regeneration was promised in the OT: Ezek 11&36, Jer 31, but even during the Lord's ministry had not yet been fulfilled John 7:39; 14:16–17; 16:7. Only under the New Covenant do we receive the "promised Holy Spirit" by faith, making ES possible.
“No man has ever been signally useful in winning souls to Christ without the help of the Holy Spirit.”
-James Caughey, nicknamed “the king of the revivalist preachers” (1834)
"Many desire a revival, but they are unwilling to labor for it. Like a cat that is very fond of fish, but would rather do without them than wet her feet."
-James Caughey (1854)
"Bring the whole gospel into action! Not just a mere 'point or 2' on Sabbath & then remaining in inglorious disuse all the rest of the week! Nay; but from day to day & night to night call forth all its mighty capabilities into action!"
-James Caughey (1860)
