This is perfect strategic team defense. By giving the puck carrier two equally great options, you confuse him to the point where he can’t execute a good play.
When defending a 2 on 1, always take the pass. Take it so aggressively, you skate right over to the open player and give the puck carrier a full breakaway.
UPDATE: it’s the middle of the off season and nothing is happening in hockey anywhere, but @TheBadCoach will be back soon with some downright horrendous advice for hockey players of all levels. Keep your head down, kids!
Body checking key points:
- Head up, hands down
- Lead with your shoulder
- Make contact approximately 3 feet from the boards
- If possible, drive your shoulder directly into his head
- If you see the players numbers, make sure you finish your check hard into the boards
