@davemeltzerWON Yeah I guess that was kind of my point - even Andre was smiling as he walked out of the shot because of how silly the whole thing was, and was meant to be. And that's fine in that context, but I don't want to be reminded of it in the main event (pretty sure we agree).
@davemeltzerWON It's one thing to have a look like WTF?! and then start setting up for the next thing. But the drawn out, bug eyed stare I can do without. Reminds me of Andre choking Uecker, it's just goofy.
@mikecampbell411@davemeltzerWON Wow, that's really interesting. I actually expected that they did that thing where everything's in slo-mo until the moment of impact (or reveal in this case) and then it switches to normal.
So...yeah, that makes the screenshot even less controversial IMO.
@mikecampbell411@davemeltzerWON I haven't watched the actual show, just the upload on YT. But I have seen other people comment that a replay was shown during the show as well. So that sounds legit.
No idea if it was slowed down at all but my hunch is that it probably was not.
@davemeltzerWON I feel like maybe they each thought the other was gonna handle keeping his face covered and it just didn't happen until way too late. Which is always a risk anytime they do it, which is maybe why I don't remember seeing that spot filmed from so close, pointed right at them.
@davemeltzerWON So far the logic has been "but the footage goes too fast to actually see anything", which is really not true at all. Anyone who actually knew the guy would have easily recognized him. It was pretty clear.
@EddyWisco@SeanRossSapp Seriously I'm like...the sources for "the media" having some sort of anti-WWE bias* is...AIRGOLD and SK?
*I think that's the general complaint but honestly I'm not 100% sure what their point is trying to be so I could be wrong, it's all very stupid
@SeanRossSapp The first try was even CLEARER than this, but I got cocky and decided to look for something "better" but then settled on this one because it's still fine.
@SeanRossSapp I decided to try this to see how difficult it would be. Third try I got this. And that was on chromecast where I effectively have to hit pause twice to get it to actually pause. Took about 30 seconds.
This took no effort, and it's not even the only shot that would work!
@davemeltzerWON Neat seeing Rocca as "Argentina Rocca". When I was a kid I had a tape of old matches and my dad insisted "Argentina" must have been a typo on the box. He was only familiar with "Antonino Rocca".
@mrmidas2k@davemeltzerWON So many people have been saying "SRS scanned the footage to find the one microsecond that you could see his face and post that one frame"...no he didnt! Opinions are gonna differ on whether he should have but it's not like he spent hours poring over the clip with a microscope...
@momothenono23@mikecampbell411@davemeltzerWON Yeah I have no idea how he feels about it. I hope he's cool with it. Hopefully it wasn't a case where he agreed to do it but had no idea how much they would end up promoting it.
@mikecampbell411@davemeltzerWON Also dying at the "WWE didn't mean to show his face, they quickly covered his face with a towel!" replies as if the towel wasn't also part of the spot like it is every single other time it's done.
@mikecampbell411@davemeltzerWON I'm not an expert on lucha libre but the "rip the mask off" spot is older than dirt and I've never seen it presented the way WWE did. It was clearly intentionally done that way so that anyone watching would see his face. Why? No clue. But they did it on purpose.
@davemeltzerWON Was thinking about that. The excuse would probably be "but this is WWE not CMLL, why would it be a DQ" but removing the mask has been a DQ in non-lucha promotions. If this whole face reveal was not intentional by WWE they are doing a terrible job of convincing anyone otherwise.
@davemeltzerWON Can't figure out why people keep saying "you'd have to meticulously go frame by frame to see his face" and similar things when that's not the case? It's quite clear in the video. Say what you want about whether or not you agree with SRS for posting it but come on.
